Gravatar I'm thinking more along the lines of the civil unrest should the "wrong fellow" get elected, know what I mean?

Gravatar It doesn't matter who wins. Look at what happens in any large urban area when its sports team wins a championship.

There are riots. Shit gets burned.

Now...

Imagine what November 5th is going to be like as the results start coming in.

Gravatar Update: Was just at Drudge report and he has a link to an article about police getting ready for election day unrest.

What's the old saying? It's not paranoia if they ARE out to get you. (or something like that)

Gravatar I am paranoid... but they're still after me.

Gravatar Yep. I am even thinking that with all the legal wrangling by both sides, along with all the fraud, it could be more like election month, instead of day.

I really do hate politics. Sometimes it is entertaining though. Wish libertarians would get their act together and run someone who would appeal a little more to mainstreamers like me. If they ran somebody who wasn't perceived as a nutball by the mainstream electorate, the rush to vote 3rd party would make the msm's heads explode. Not to mention RNC and DNC.

Gravatar Nah, I would just call you a normal guy. Definitely not paranoid. Cynical yes, not paranoid. If you were, I wouldn't bother coming here.

Definitely the brains of the trio.

Gravatar "Definitely the brains of the trio."

Check's in the mail Susan!

Gravatar Yeah, it would be more fun to watch the fireworks from afar if I didn't have so many people I care about living in the midst....

Gravatar "It doesn't matter who wins. Look at what happens in any large urban area when its sports team wins a championship.

There are riots. Shit gets burned.

Now...

Imagine what November 5th is going to be like as the results start coming in."

Dude... the neighborhood I live in has actually been getting better over the last year or so.

But I'm still thinking I need to get the 870, buckshot and extra PT145 mags now instead of later.

Gravatar The only thing i'm paranoid about now, is if my Dillion reloading machine breaks down!

Gravatar if you aleady have a sidearm...I'd spend the money on a rifle.

su-16 if you can find one.

Gravatar SB, you think there'll be fireworks in the US, but not Europe?

Gravatar Fight or flight, maybe both, it's hard to think any such incident will be much more than Huck's Last Stand, but hey, that's how the game's played and I'm ready as I'll ever be, except there's always room for one more box of ammo or pallet of canned beans.
Still, the suspense is killing me...

Gravatar I'm actually getting a little bored with it.

Let's get it over with for crying out loud.

Gravatar Just a question. With all the ivy league people we have running things these days, and everything just seeming to fall apart all at the same time, is it rational for us to believe that the best and the brightest of the world are truly so ignorant? To be so niave as to not see their behavior as destructive? Is it paranoid to not believe in coincedence? I guess the question should be; Is it criminal intent, or, criminal negligents? And with the I.Q.'s we have swaggering around the upper chambers these days,is there really any excuse? Praise you o father for making me a ignorant plebe! For theres only one judge, and all would do well to fear him!

Gravatar mthead... did you real the letter that the fund manager wrote about those ivy league types?

Gravatar I think i missed that one Nate.

Gravatar Here it is.

Gravatar Here it is.

Gravatar You'll rue the day you crossed me, Haloscan.

Gravatar Boy-howdy; the lead in told the story on that one!

Gravatar Plenty of ivy leaguers are wiping ol' andy's nutt off their face today.

Gravatar I'm probably going to get a S&W Sigma .40 since my wife could probably handle it and it's fairly inexpensive. But I'm curious as to which SU16 to get. There's the cheaper one I found here link

Gravatar The C. Absolutely the C. JAC and I debated it at length.. and actually fondled each of the varients.

We both ended up with the C... and we both dearly love the interesting little rifle.

Gravatar Oh... and Jerome... No S&W autos. They redefine suck. They are arguably the worst semi's you can buy... only Ruger makes comparibly horrible options.

Gravatar No! to the sigma, jerome. Spend that money on a HiPoint. Best gun per dollar a fella can buy, yes they are ugly but WTF. Sigma is a notorious piece of shit.

Gravatar Definitely the brains of the trio.
Susan | 10.22.08 - 11:51 am

Susan, dear, please click the link to the right that says "Threeway" and make a comment so that I may preemptively ban you for stupidity.

Gravatar Play nice old man.

Gravatar Hi-points are interesting. If you run out of bullets they make excellent flying objects. That is, if you have enough adrenaline flowing to hurl one. And if Obama gets elected, an demands we turn over our guns. Its worth what you paid for it in scrap iron.......Then theres that trigger pull.

Gravatar They go bang everytime and hit where you aim, mthead. More than can be said of some much more expensive POS's.

Gravatar Nate,
Wah.

Gravatar You guys have almost convinced me to buy one of those SU-16's.

Gravatar They go bang everytime and hit where you aim, mthead. More than can be said of some much more expensive POS's.
JACIII | Homepage | 10.22.08 - 8:45 pm | #

-------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------
Thats if your still aiming in the same place by the time you get thru the trigger pull! Sure Jac, they work. But for not a whole lot more, you can buy some pretty decent iron. Look around, theres alot of people getting rid of their iron these days.

Gravatar mthead,
The trigger is bad.. but I've seen guys win competitions with them. Very amusing indeed.

Gravatar Nate, Thats some high humor indeed! Got some folks re-tuning their race guns after that one,i bet.

Gravatar SB, you think there'll be fireworks in the US, but not Europe?

Over the election or the meltdown? Where I am I expect neither to cause riots. Perhaps in Paris and London or maybe Rome or Berlin, but basically, no I don't think there will be fireworks.

Gravatar mthead
Old dude had all kinds of Hi-Point gear on... rubbed it in their faces.

Lots of head shaking going on.

Gravatar Thanks guys. I've got Ruger P89, but the dang thing is a pain to take apart so I was looking at the Sigma...not sure I want to go that route now though.

So ya'll think this is better? The price is right.

Gravatar Good ole Europe won't be devoid of it's fireworks, not that SB is suggesting that, but Europe's got her legs wrapped around the devil's waist.

Gravatar Jerome,
I don't doubt for a second that the hi point is superior to the Ruger or the SW.

On the other hand there are lots of weapons out there that are more superior for 300 or 400 dollars.

Find a Styer. You'll be amazed at what you can get for the price.

My local shop has one in the low 300's. Bet you can find one cheap to.

Gravatar but Europe's got her legs wrapped around the devil's waist.

Does she ever. But like I said, not worried about it in our neck of the woods, but there will be some ugly areas in Europe as well.

Gravatar su-16 if you can find one.
Nate

Is $543 a good price for the A? A local store supposedly has one in stock.

I think I could swing that next payday. Hmmmmmm.....

But an Rem. 870 or Mossberg 500 would be less spendy and maybe overall better for home defense for us city folk.

Decisions, decisions...

Gravatar shotguns are great for close quarters stuff... but consider the benefit of an su-16 kept in your car with 2 30 round mags.

Gravatar Sheesh... almost every place I look online is discounted over the local store that has one in stock. I hate haggling.

What sights did you put on your SU16's?

(And that RFB looks just badass.)

Gravatar ...preemptively ban you.

JAC,

bwahahahahahaha! Nate indeed has the brains, but you really crack me up sometimes.

Gravatar Guns are tools.
You need the right tool for the job.
That means more than one gun because not every type of gun can fulfill every role.

Think about where you live. What kind of terrain does it have? How many rooms does your house have? How far away are your neighbors? All these should be considerations in what types of guns you will buy.

An example, if you live in Kansas you're going to have long lines of sight. You will be able to engage an enemy as extreme range because you will be able to see him. This is the perfect place to employ a .308/7.62 as your main battle rifle. Maybe even invest in a heavy barrled accurized version or even a bolt gun.

If you live in some place like the Ozarks, very few locations will have lines of sight more than 200 or 300 yards. This is a perfect place to use a .223/5.56.

But just to be plain, a pistol is for fighting your way to your rifle or shotgun. It can also do will in tight quarters or extremely short range. A shotgun is for medium or close range encounters. A rifle is for longer range encounters, it can keep other people away from you and allow you to disengage (get away alive).

You also need backups for all those weapons for when one breaks, and spare parts to fix the broken ones. The backups can be lent out to trustworthy people, two guns are better than one. Or you can sell one to those same people if you need some money.

I've heard this pithy saying in connection to more than one equipment critical endeavor.

Two is one, and one is none.

If any of this doesn't sound right please correct me.

Gravatar in a neighborhood... I recommend a carbine. .223 for convenience.

Gravatar Rifles are almost always better than pistols, the only time a pistol is better is when you're carrying it.

Some wag once remarked that pistols are great for a fire-fight in a crowded elevator.

Gravatar I'm liking the looks of the Marlin 45/70 - the ammo is $1.50 per shell. Any of y'all shot it? Is it as effective as it sounds? What range you 'spect?

Also, the Savage 16FCSS looks good.

Gravatar Hey Nate, a friend was looking for a handgun to go south with this winter. (snowbird). I think he finally decided to take his 870.

Anyway, a co-worker suggested to him 'the judge' from taurus. It is a .45 colt revolver that also shoots .410 shotshells. The birdshot loads are a joke, but they are selling 000 buckshot loads specifically for this gun. They disperse into a center mass sized pattern across a room due to the barrel being rifled.

So you get a few buckshot, each having more energy than a .38 special +p. There is a 3" model too.

There is an article in this month's shooting times.

Gravatar the bird shot is for seperating the skin of a car jacker's face from his skull.

For that... Its pretty effective.

Gravatar Bub, a .45-70 is a shorter range rifle. Heavy, slow moving chunk of lead. Rainbow trajectory. It is certainly effective, but there are probably better choices.

Of course, any gun you like is a good choice.

Gravatar I wouldn't want it. If he happens to be across the street, it will only iss him off. Of course, the next round could be buckshot, or .45 colt.

Funny how something I laughed at before now seems like a good idea.

Gravatar its' for extreme close quarters Giraffe.

But like I say.. I prefer a to have a semi-auto carbine... a reliable sidearm.. and a shotgun for indoor encounters.

Gravatar Can admit I didn't read shit, Nate. What I can't admit?

I'm so hard you're full of fluff like that pillow you're sleeping on.

Gravatar I can whip your invincible arse! Okay too much laughing with Bane's take on you.

Gravatar Zip it hippy.

Gravatar JacIII has the brains, but he can't see the the Martial law coming, not because he isn't capable, it just too but cognative dissonance.

Gravatar Even squirels are smart enough to store food. Hint, Hint, HINT!

Gravatar Maier --- I've been pleased with my Mossberg 500. It came with 2 barrels, one short for home defense. Don't know if they still sell that way.

Nate, I bought that Steyer MA1 .40 recently. First pistol. Only had it out twice with maybe 100 rounds through it. Love it, but I learned winston white box is crap.

Gravatar Make that winchester. Also smoked my first pack of Winstons.....heh.

Gravatar JRL, I take it you mean this?
http://www.impactguns.com/store/...tore/ 51482.html

Looks like a pretty sweet deal for only a little over $300.

Gravatar Yep, that's it. Mine doesn't have pistol grip, but otherwise same setup.

Gravatar http://www.usatoday.com/news/ nat...stifiable_N.htm

Can you guys help me out here? I am not understanding that last paragraph. Is the dude saying that there are a lot of corpses laying about that were created by defensive use but not called in to the cops?

Does that make any sense? Am I missing something? How could he know that?

Gravatar That whole article was a waste of time. The last paragraph is incoherent. I want to know why the rates were higher in 94 and then dropped off real quick like as carry and self-defense laws became more favorable in many states.

Gravatar MM, what that paragraph says to me is that deaths from the justified use of self-defense may not be counted if they were done for reasons other than stopping a felony crime.

For example, in some states the use of deadly force is justified even if the crime it is preventing is a lesser category like a misdemeanor. This would most likely apply to acts like protection of property, which is odd that they would include it as "self-defense'.

In the context of the article, these acts may not have been included in the FBI statistics.

Gravatar Your labels are quite informative in searching your blog, Nate. Thanks.

Gravatar DON'T GET ON THE FEMA BUSSES. They aren't taking you to food.

Gravatar If you live in the city, and you didn't store food, remember, when all those hungry people get on the FEMA bus there are going to be allot of abandoned dogs. If its' anything like coyote it tases terrible, I sugest allot of dog jerky, with plenty of spice.

Gravatar How 'bout dog sausage E.P.? You can use inners as sausage tubing.

Gravatar Hrmmm Good I dea if you got a hand grinder.

Gravatar Needed

1) ten gallon of gasoline stored with Stabil
2) Chain saw for cutting wood, 2 cycle oil
3) a minimum of 6 months strable food for each family member
4) gallon of clorie/clorox un scented no aditives.
5) Gravity flow wate filter (Berke)- 10 drops of cloring per gallon of water stir and let sit for 30 minutes. Pour in Berke it will take the clrine out, so to be safe you could use 12 drops per gallon
5) Guns
6) Lots of books
7) lighting, kerosine lamp
Flash lite, lots of batteries
9 bunches of matches
10) start buying egs with paper container/ met wax and fill each hole in empty carton, place cotton ball in wax leaving some sticking up for lighting (great fire starters. You can use dryer lint in lue of cotton balls
110 I'm watching Dallas lose.

Gravatar Delete one of those nate, I refeshed after eating lunch and it posted it again

Gravatar I sugest allot of dog jerky, with plenty of spice.

I found a german shepherd that'd been shot and dumped in the woods today EP. What spices would you suggest.

Gravatar Favorite dog recipe: Gage dog and allow him to starve for about a week. Then feed him large portions of dehydrated rice. Then large amounts of water until swollen rice starts running out both ends. At this point he can be pitted, or spitted and rotisseried. Which is a personal favorite. Once hair is burned off, season to taste.

Gravatar You guys are rookies at survival stuff. I teach this at Boy Scout camp.

Do not use kerosene lanterns, they take too long to start if you need light in a hurry, and more importantly, they get FREAKING HOT. Much better off with a wind-up LED, a solar powered LED (get a yard light and put a switch on the thing) and a bunch of those survival candle things. Have more than one light source. The shake LED flashlights don't last very long, not reliable enough IMHO.

You're better off with a bow saw and a wedge for firewood. Axes are only for knocking off small branches, saws are much better for cutting big stuff, and have about a half-dozen extra blades. And learn how to build a fire, seriously, attend Boy Scout training if you have to, but learn how to build a proper fire and how to cook over a fire. The best fire starters in approximate order are; Esbit solid fuel (that's the civilian version of what the military used to use), "Jute" rope pulled into a birds nest, cardboard egg cartons stuffed with sawdust (I mean really packed) then filled with melted wax, char-cloth (learn how to make this), or melted wax poured over cotton balls. In addition to several of the above, you need to have; flint and steel (I'd recommend a Swedish FireStick) and a magnifing glass - glasses will work in a pinch if you know how to do it (put water on your lens if you're nearsighted). Matches are great, but they're very subject to dampness (even the sealed ones) and once those run out, or if it's REALLY wet, you're screwed. Learn other ways to make fire.

The pump filters are better than gravity fed. Make sure you have all the supplies necessary for the thing as well - especially TWO water containers, one for dirty and one for clean. Learn how to sanitize water for washing using a trash bag in the sun - no sense in getting all your wash water sparkling clean.

A compass is always a good idea, as are a good selection of decent quality knives. I personally like Buck knifes as utility knives, Gerber are also nice but they don't make many decent non-lock blades. Folding non-locking are your best bet.

Shelter
Fire
Water
Food

Gravatar DOH! What was I thinking, NOT wax on cotton balls, Vaseline on cotton balls. We tried wax, didn't work all that well. I'm pretty sure it was vaseline on cotton balls that worked well. Well, try it. I personally use Jute or char-cloth when I'm hiking, and egg-cartons with sawdust and wax if I'm car camping. I have Esbit in my survival pack, but I don't use it on a regular basis.

And that's the other thing, you need to practice this stuff. I go ultra-light wilderness camping once or twice a year, regular camping about once per month. I've been doing survival weekends with the Scouts twice a year, plus summer camps.

Gravatar How many kids you got, Bill?

Gravatar Three, that I know of.

Gravatar Good on ya.

Gravatar Ok, I'm late to the gun party here...

I understand the hate for S&W autos, as the older gun guys in my circle have tried them and found them seriously lacking. But I don't really understand the hate for Ruger... I have a Ruger P90DC (.45 ACP) and I quite like it. It seems heavy-duty and well-built and it comes apart for cleaning quite nicely. My only real objection is the design where the decocking levers and rear sight and other such pokey things are on the top - right where your hand needs to be for racking the slide properly. So after two full days of shooting classes, my palm was about rubbed raw.

So why is Ruger picked on here? Admittedly, I don't have much experience with the better brands of semi pistols, so it's possible that I speak from ignorance - never having tasted the good stuff.

I notice that the SiGs and other quality guns are designed a bit more ergonomically for more volume shooting. I'm looking at getting perhaps a Glock or XD in a more compact package for carry purposes. But I think I'll still keep the P90 for carrying around the house or something. Unless my carry gun is just so absolutely comfortable that I never take it off.

I'd love to find a Steyr, but as near as I can tell they never made one in 45 cal.

Does that hi-point pistol in the link that jerome posted seriously go for $186??? Or is that something like" 'buy the gun first, and then we'll put some extra work into it for you'? So Made in USA, but I expect that you still get what you (don't) pay for??? I'm of the opinion that a decent, current manufacture, pistol from a quality manufacturer should cost more than $350 or so.

Gravatar cyn, the knock on Ruger is less on their product and more on their traitorous behavior, same with S&W.

Gravatar I'm looking at getting perhaps a Glock or XD

I'd be careful whispering that around these parts.
Glocks are chick guns and for some inexplicable reason, Nate and JACIII cannot abide the XD.
Something about Czech lawnmowers if recall serves me right...

Gravatar Though I love my XD, .45 ACP, light, compact, puts bullets where I want to every single time, it has never come close to jamming on me, and it just feels right in the hand.
I recommend the XD with a clear conscience...

Gravatar " cyn, the knock on Ruger is less on their product and more on their traitorous behavior, same with S&W.
Bub | 10.27.08 - 12:39 pm"

Nah, Ruger just has a bad reputation with semi-autos. They've never been up to the standards of other well regarded semi-auto makers.

Maybe they have some models now that break the cycle of mediocrity but don't quote me on it.

Now revolvers on the other hand, Ruger knows how to make those.

Gravatar Ruger just has a bad reputation with semi-autos.

Yeah, but they made up for it with the totally awesome Mini-14! W00T!!1! The Mini-14 has got to be part of any survival kit. It's the most reliable, accurate weapon on the market, as I'm sure we all agree.

Gravatar Yes, I've been leaning toward the XD, over the Glock. There's a big gun show this weekend, so I'll get to handle them a bit and try to compare fit.

So what are the preferred .45 ACP semi-auto pistols here, then? The Sig P220 looks nice.

Gravatar Breaking news from Drudge. Evidently BATF broke up a plot by skinheads in Tennessee that targeted a bunch of random blacks and Obama supposedly.

What is up with your state Nate? Not being disrespectful, but why all the weird stuff happening right now in Tennessee? I mean WTH? Is this just an excuse to steal guns?

Gravatar Huckleberry: "Nate and JACIII cannot abide the XD. Something about Czech lawnmowers if recall serves me right..."

That was the problem, all right...you can't mow lawns with an XD.

I guess the blade height must be too short, or something...

Gravatar Target 102 black folks? Really? Not 101 or 103? I'll withhold judgment on that one. Sounds a little fishy and thin.

Gravatar For a carry gun. go with an S.T.I.. their thin, which is a big part of carry, and very well made. But theirs a ton of single stack, (1911 design),knock-offs. Some at reasonable prices.that fit the carry bill.XD's are pure battle guns. I hate Glocks. They just don't point for me.And theres a whole host of reasons way there crap. And most of those reasons have already been addressed with the XD. Polished feed ramp, stainless metal clips, etc. Slap it in a Bianchi military flap holster and go mud crawl on a target. I like the hell out of mine. I work the hell out of it too.

Gravatar Nate you ever had your Steyer(s) jam on you? Mine jammed twice already....I'm guessing it's the ammo since one round didn't fire after it was struck by the pin.

Gravatar No failures of any kind JRL.

And the knock on Ruger has nothing to do with behavior. It has to do with their shitty weapons.

Ruger semi's are the worst handguns available for purchase in the western hemisphere.

Gravatar Nate, could you recommend a good online gun store or two? Slim pickins these days. Could you email me cuz I'd like to get your opinion on a couple of guns? Thanks, Jeff.
