Gravatar They were demeaning as you might expect. Plenty of small town and country ie less sophisticated remarks. Pretty much what you might expect. One commentator said that the Titans weren't built for the NFL.

Gravatar Weren't "built" for the NFL????

That's a pretty bizarre way to describe a team that leads the AFC by 2 games.

Gravatar Fair is fair. We are the Titans bitch this year.

As far as the broadcast, they ragged on the Titans quite a bit about their schedule and I thought they made a big deal about LenDale White's weight the entire time. The hammered home the fact that Tennessee didn't have any receivers, but to a Colts fan, I thought they didn't slurp Collins nearly enough. Collins was making every single play in the book in the 2nd half.

If anything I didn't think they were giving Tennessee enough credit for being as good as they actually are. But what do you expect from Kornheiser and Jaworski? As a Colts fan, I certainly love to rag on the Titans when we beat them, but in all honesty, if you weren't afraid of the Titans just a bit then you didn't know very much about football.

Gravatar And another thing. At this point I don't see how anyone says the Titans aren't far and away the best team in the NFL. Chris Johnson is everything you said he was going to be and more. Collins is making plays and as far as the battle of the trenches, I haven't seen ANY TEAM in the NFL play as well as the Titans O-Line and D-Line.

Here is a question for you. Collins wants to be a starting QB but Tennessee has VY. Assuming Collins leads this team to the Super Bowl, wouldn't it be prudent for VY to keep as the understudy for another year?

I like Tennessee to win the Super Bowl this year, but if VY ever becomes the every down QB this year then Titans fans have to be groaning.

Gravatar Kornheiser is a tool.

He said something like, "Welcome to Nashville, a city known more for Elvis than Football."

Um, Tony, Elvis was from Memphis.

Also, do you not remember the FUCKING SUPERBOWL and the FUCKING MUSIC CITY MIRACLE?

Tony K adds NOTHING to the MNF broadcast.

Gravatar The Titans are an elite WR away from become flat-out the best team in the League.

Gravatar Collins is gone after this year. At least that is the general consensus. He's just not going to go back to being a backup... and I don't think think Bud will let the Titans keep Young on the bench.

A superbowl win could possibly change things but that is extremely premature at this point. This is a damned good football team... but I ain't countin' those eggs yet.

I wanted to point out.. did you notice your Colts pullin out that 4-4 defense? That was freakin' awesome! Great great coaching.

What do you make of Manning right now? I tell ya some balls left his hand that just didn't look right. I mean... Peyton threw some ducks in situations where he just hasn't in the past. Injury related footwork issue maybe?

I wouldn't be down on your colts. Tough road ahead in the next couple weeks... but its still a young team and I think you'll get a wild card... and no that's not a backhanded compliment.

Gravatar As far as our boys in the trenches...Roos handled Freeney alone monday night. He only got help a couple times all night long... and I don't know about you but I didn't hear Freeney's name called even one time.

But seriously... How did we steal Thorton from y'all? He was a perfect fit your defense back there at linebacker. Polian must've thrown up when he signed with the Titans.

Gravatar I have a lot of thoughts about the the AFC south.. the AFC... and the Titans... as I'm sure you can tell from the rambling nature of my comments.

I need to settle down and write up a comprehensive post or two... I just dunno if I have the time right now.

Gravatar "The Titans are an elite WR away from become flat-out the best team in the League."

No position is more over-rated than WR.

Gravatar You're not worried that you've only played one over .500 team? That the combined record of your opponents is around .400?

I would worry about my team getting overly confident in too-easy wins.

(I didn't watch.)

Gravatar Dude.. ya play a bad team... you blow them out.

Ya play a good team... you find a way to win.

That's all you can do.

The Titans ain't squeaking by. Of their 7 wins... 5 of them have been by 2 scores or more.

And what would those team's records be if the Titans hadn't beaten them?

Take Indy... they'd be 4-3 instead of 3-4. Jacksonville woule be 4-3 to. So would Houston.

See suddenly doesn't look so bad does it?

Plus... its the way the Titans win that is so convincing. Its that offensive line that hasn't given up a sack in 5 games... and only 2 all damned year.

Its the defense that simply has no holes.

Our kryptonite?

Special teams. we can't cover a kick return to save our asses.

Gravatar Okay. I don't know how good they look on the field to get a feel for it. I watched some of one MNF game cuz I was at a poker night and it was on.

I just looked up the standings for the hell of it and saw "6-0". I was surprised then took a cursory look at the stats and thought "Hmmmm..."

Gravatar What do you make of Manning right now? I tell ya some balls left his hand that just didn't look right. I mean... Peyton threw some ducks in situations where he just hasn't in the past. Injury related footwork issue maybe?

He isn't right. I just did some sports medicine stuff in my last clinical elective and a couple of the guys were in on the Manning knee stuff. They wouldn't get into specifics but they said that for whatever reason Manning wasn't taking care of himself properly when he had the bursitis. They also said Saturday is hurt pretty bad as well but is playing out the string because he's a FA at the end of the year.

They are banged up. Still, like you say, Freeney was a non-factor as was the entire Colts defensive line. Beating the Colts is no secret. Don't let them get too far ahead and pound the ball at them because they sure as hell can't stop the run. The Titans have been perfecting that strategy for a couple of years now.

And I don't want to hear any bitching from Colts fans about Bob Sanders. It wouldn't have made a difference.

As to Thornton, when you figure out why we let him walk, let me know because I still haven't figured it out.

And one more thing, Kornheiser more than once went on and on about how the Titans had never faced a passing offense this season like Indy could bring. He kept hammering away at this until finally Tennessee took the lead and then Manning threw that pick in the 4th. Only then did he finally shut up. Up until that point he kept going on and on about how Manning is paid to bring the Colts back from deficits like this and even Jaworski piped in a couple of times about how smart Manning was and how patient he was and that the game was going down to the wire. The Titans were up 31-14 before they finally shut up.

Gravatar By the way, as we Hoosiers are celebrating a win over Northwestern, what is going on in Vol Nation? How are the natives reacting to this season?

Gravatar Fulmer is done. He is SO fired. He's got to much pride to step down I think.. but to much money is drying up because of his shitty coaching.

Boosters are PISSED.

Natives are restless indeed.

Gravatar Special teams. we can't cover a kick return to save our asses.

At this point Alan Lowry is just coasting from "Home run throwback"

Just think how bad S/T would be without Bironas and Hendrick?

Gravatar And dude, you have to have at least one WR that can keep the defense from putting 8 or 9 in the box.

When Bo Scaife has the most targets on the team, that ain't a good thing.

Gravatar Lakers thrashed Portland on opening night!

And Oden went down like a bitch, AGAIN.

Oh.

You're talking about football.

Carry on then.

Bitches.

Gravatar Fulmer's won a national championship and just signed a "he's one of us" extension before this year, so how much is the buyout? He did back into sec title game last year. Like Clemson, this one's gonna cost somebody. How silly do AD's and boosters look with stuff like this?

"We're anticipating he's going to be here seven years-plus. That's what the contract says, that's what he's said he wants to do, that's what we've said we want him to do." - July '08

http://www.govolsxtra.com/news/2...lmers-new-deal/

Gravatar buy out is 6 million. My buddy works directly under the athletic department's CFO. They have had 7million set aside for this for a long long time.

They budgeted for phil's buyout a long time ago.

Gravatar "When Bo Scaife has the most targets on the team, that ain't a good thing."

Dallas Clark had more targets than any Indy WR. Is that also a bad thing? Antonio Gates also leads his team in targets. Is that a bad thing too?

Fact is Indy is the first team that has completely sold out to stop the run, and we hung 31 on them.

With 9 in the box... any one of our WR's can run a double move and catch it deep.

Gage can. McCariens can. Hawkins can. Brandon Jones can. Chris Davis can. Hell... even Paul Williams can.

Gravatar Meh. I ignore announcers most of the time, regardless of the sport. Not that we watch a whole lot of football, but I have noticed some of the announcers being unusually (and unnecessarily) harsh. I don't know if they're trying to be like American Idol or what, but they come across sounding like idiots.

Gravatar This has been bugging me lately. It seems like to get the sideline/iceside reporter job, one must be a chick. If said chick is good at it and loves the sport in which she is working, fine. The problem I have is that they are thousands of guys who dream of a job like that, but because of demographic reaching and 'need' to have female representation, it's less and less likely that a guy will get the job, regardless of how good he might be.

Any chick in a sports broadcast should have the knowledge of the sport on par with the knowledge of cars demonstrated by Marissa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny, nothing less. Of course to be fair, the same standard applies to guys.

Gravatar > Kornheiser is a tool.

You misspelled fool. He's also an idiot. And that's the polite things I can say about him.

Gravatar Any chick in a sports broadcast should have the knowledge of the sport on par with the knowledge of cars demonstrated by Marissa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny, nothing less. Of course to be fair, the same standard applies to guys.

Yeah, but. The thing is that lots of guys actually do have this sort of highly detailed knowledge - I personally know several guys that could pull off the courtroom scene in real life without prepping for it - and could probably go another 20 minutes talking about which option package came stock with 15 inch tires and if it were possible to convert the car to posi-traction. Heck, if they were talking about '69 Superbees or GTX's vs Coronets and Satellites I could give it a go.

And you find the same thing in sports. There are lots and lots of guys with a stunning knowledge of the minutia of sports, things like which guys use pre-wrap when they tape up and which guys don't - whereas it's tough to find a women that even knows what pre-wrap is or why you would use it vs not use it.

If you hired on this sort of qualification, you'd never see a women sports anchor - but who'd want to watch some hairy guy mumble his way through an interview?

Gravatar I like Bonnie on CBS, but is she even on any more? She's never annoyed me with her stupidity. Pam Oliver is okay too.

I can't think of any others that haven't at least annoyed me.

Gravatar Chargers finally canned that asshat DC Cottrell. I was excited about the news until they said his replacement would be Rivera, another Tampa 2 guy.
I hate the Tampa 2...

Gravatar If you hired on this sort of qualification, you'd never see a women sports anchor - but who'd want to watch some hairy guy mumble his way through an interview?

I did mention a time or two in the first paragraph that the person should be good at broadcasting. The second paragraph was simply an illustration as to how knowledgeable I think a broad caster should be about their sport.

While I pretty much have enough knowledge of hockey, I wouldn't be a good broadcaster, and not merely because the nicknames we've given some players would slip out.

Gravatar Josh: " "The Titans are an elite WR away from become flat-out the best team in the League."

Tell that to the Lions.

Gravatar Preach Waterboy. Football teams are defined in the trenches. WR's are window dressing.

unless they provide the kind of leadership that Micheal Irvin offered... they are pretty baubles.

Nothing else.

Gravatar Hey, before Millen got canned, I hear tell he was working on a breakthrough formation involving nothing but WRs and a whole lot of laterals...

Gravatar Nate: "they are pretty baubles"

I wouldn't necessarily go that far. Jerry Rice was a pretty effective bauble.

However, they are only tools in the box, weapons in the arsenal. You still need the complements of a good QB, a strong O-line, and a competent running game. As the Lions have found out -- many, many times -- marquee WRs by themselves are useless.

Huck: "he was working on a breakthrough formation involving nothing but WRs "

He was trying to implement the "five-wide" literally.

Gravatar sure but look at the routes Jerry Rice ran.

In terms of depth... the man was a freakin' Tight End.

He made a living catching 5 yard passes and adding 30 yards to it.

Gravatar Football teams are defined in the trenches. WR's are window dressing.

Preach that brother! The big uglies decide a lot and the Titans have the biggest and the ugliest of them all right now.

Gravatar I can't speak of the announcers' attitudes toward your community, Nate but I'm loving the Tennessee D. They have kept me at least competitive in my FFL. Albert Haynesworth is a beast. A lot of other good players, too.
Now what is wrong with Crumpler?

Gravatar sure but look at the routes Jerry Rice ran.

In terms of depth... the man was a freakin' Tight End.

He made a living catching 5 yard passes and adding 30 yards to it.

I knew Jerry Rice. Jerry Rice was a friend of mine. And any WR on the Titans is no Jerry Rice.

Hell, the Titans are still my pick for the AFC Champ, but we aren't invincible.

Gravatar No one has said the Titans are invincible dude. No one is even saying they are heading to the Superbowl.

What I am saying is... we don't need Roy Williams.

All an elite WR would do is screw up our locker room because he doesn't get the ball enough.

Gravatar Hey, before Millen got canned, I hear tell he was working on a breakthrough formation involving nothing but WRs and a whole lot of laterals...
Huckleberry

Hehe.

Poor, poor Lions...they're going to get another high draft pick. Whatever will they do?

Gravatar Pick up Javon Ringer?

Gravatar How funny would it be if the consensus top 5 players in the draft were all WRs?

I'll tell what I would do... I would trade down and draft big fast linemen.

Gravatar I would trade down and draft big fast linemen.

And why do you think Miami is all of a sudden relevant again?
Because they spent their first round pick on a quick and huge O-lineman, converted a quick and huge (and quite possibly psychotic) linebacker to Offensive Tackle, and they've built one hell of a line.
Now they've got Pennington, an incredibly accurate passer who has tons of time to throw and he's having the best year of his career.
A new rule of thumb: Never draft a "superstar" with your first round pick - WR, RB, QB - because more often than not, it goes to their head and a team in a position to draft so high doesn't have the supporting apparatus to facilitate their success.

Gravatar Ya prolly enjoy MNF alot more with the sound off. I do. You think those guys know more than you do?

I just keep the sound handy in case there's a penalty I can't figure out.
