You know ah...some might call this Stage 2, Denial.
It's not just a river in Egypt!
If Bane was alive he would have blogged somewhere, he would have creeped someone out, somewhere, he would have scared the crap out of someone, somewhere, and they would have alerted the rest of the blogosphere.
There's no way that old man could avoid the net this long.
So! Soon, Nate, mate, I'll tell you to let it all out and we can do the Matt Damon/Robin Williams hug scene from Good Will Hunting.
Yay!

Nah your point was valid, I've been known to swallow a fair bit of shit, even gargle it, before I realise it's shit. But this one, I reckon he's dead.
Why don't you pull a Ferris Bueller scene on his family then?
Go play Principal Ed Rooney at his blog:
"Uh, yeah, sure, no I'd be happy to pay my respects, yeah you just produce a corpse, and uh, I'll do that. I wanna see this dead guy first hand. Yeah, that's right, just roll his old bones on over here, and I'll dig up my eulogy. You know that's blog policy."

I'm not recalling the scene in Ferris that you are referring to (there is a bit in Faulty Towers that is reminicent of this.)
In any case, Ed Rooney was a jerk, but he was also right.

Jamsco: "I'm not recalling the scene in Ferris that you are referring to "
It was the scam they pulled to get Ferris' girlfriend out of school by saying her grandmother passed away:
Ed Rooney: Ed Rooney.
Cameron: [disguising voice as George Peterson] Ed. This is George Peterson.
Ed Rooney: How are you today, sir?
Cameron: [voice disguised] Well, we've had a bit of bad luck this morning as you may have heard.
Ed Rooney: Yeah I heard, and man, I'm all broken up, boy, what a blow.
Cameron: [disguised] Yeah. Yeah. Well, uh, it's been a tough morning and we got a lot of family business to take care of, so if you wouldn't mind excusing Sloane, I'd appreciate it.
Ed Rooney: Uh, yeah, sure, no I'd be happy to, yeah you, uh, you you just produce a corpse, and uh, I'll release Sloane. I wanna see this dead grandmother first hand.
Grace: Ed?
Ed Rooney: It's alright, Grace, it's Ferris Bueller the little twerp. I'm gonna set a trap and let him fall right in it.
Grace: Ooh!
Cameron: [disguised] I'm sorry, Ed, did you say you wanted to see a body?
Ed Rooney: Yeah, that's right, just, uh, roll her old bones on over here, and I'll dig up your daughter. You know that's school policy.

Heh, off topic... other than dead things... did you catch this email that's going around;
Dear American:
I need to ask you to support an urgent secret business relationship with a transfer of funds of great magnitude.
I am Ministry of the Treasury of the Republic of America. My country has had crisis that has caused the need for large transfer of funds of 800 billion dollars US. If you would assist me in this transfer, it would be most profitable to you.
I am working with Mr. Phil Gram, lobbyist for UBS, who will be my replacement as Ministry of the Treasury in January. As a Senator, you may know him as the leader of the American banking deregulation movement in the 1990s. This transaction is 100% safe.
This is a matter of great urgency. We need a blank check. We need the funds as quickly as possible. We cannot directly transfer these funds in the names of our close friends because we are constantly under surveillance. My family lawyer advised me that I should look for a reliable and trustworthy person who will act as a next of kin so the funds can be transferred.
Please reply with all of your bank account, IRA and college fund account numbers and those of your children and grandchildren to wallstreetbailout@treasury.gov so that we may transfer your commission for this transaction. After I receive that information, I will respond with detailed information about safeguards that will be used to protect the funds.
Yours Faithfully Minister of Treasury
Henry Paulson

I was able to go there and see Nate chime in amongst everyone else. Strangely, would Bane have expected anything less?
When going through the archives I saw one stark difference, where Bane argued to keep the Republic together and Nate the right to secession. Basing an analogy on that, Bane would accept Nate being dead and while saying some nice things would still kick him in the balls and wash his hands of it after. Nate, being the paranoid Southron, would of course deny honest-intent and scream set-up by an undercover yankee agent.

He lived in Portland, Oregon. Just go back far enough in the archives and you'll find it.
Also, he talked about weather all the time as well. It was always pacific northwest weather.
Whether any of that was real is another thing entirely.
Considering that he faked his death once and was not above lying about certain things in order to protect his family or his privacy then I see no reason to completely trust his blog now.
With that said, the scenario I see as somewhat probable goes like this.
He knew he was not long for this world. At least the set up for making his readers buy into it was long and thorough. He was in a lot of pain and was running low on energy. He was beginning to lack the will to write as a consequence.
He may have planned his 'demise' to occur on his blog some days before his real death so he could check out the reaction it got. Why he might have done it that way may have as much to do with his family as with his own wishes.
He may have repeatedly said that he was a sociopath and didn't care what any other person thought of him or what he did or what he said. But certain things can be interpreted to contradict that. Namely the first time he faked his death. Though he may have done it to be entertained rather than to gauge what people thought of him.
Anyway, he will be missed.

Actually, no he did not live in Portland. No self-respecting person lives in Portland. He lived closer to Albany, which is between Salem and Eugene. He would go to the VA in Portland though. Said it was approx. 1-1/2 hours one way, if memory serves. I believe he was also around 52 years old if that helps narrow down the search.

I think Nate is doing exactly what Bane was hoping he would. Pretty rich, if you ask me. And a fitting tribute in its own way.
I'm going with the notion that he really is dead, based on his participation at Bruce Bethke's site.
However, I think it very strange that Bruce's blog has been silent ever since. I seem to recall that Bruce would be around 52 right now, also...
Nah! I think I'll just stop thinking.

I specifically meant his actual name. Obviously, his family prefers their privacy or they would have gone ahead and announced it themselves. When possible names started popping up, that's what I was referring to.
Go ahead and tell the man's story, as best you know it. But respect the family's wishes as regards anonymity.
