Don't drink nor smoke no more. Never without the F. though. Just got back from Mex. food with the wife. Why is it that all Mex's think that because you want fajitas, you want to listen to their music to? That crap drives me nuts.

I stopped at the gunshop last night. Just looking. Several items caught my eye. A Henry lever .17 HMR for smaller varmints, $400. A used Ruger Redhawk .44 $525. And several Springfield 1911's from $900-$1500.
Being financially disciplined sucks sometimes.

I have never been into levers, but I love the .17hmr as it is plain fun to shoot. I have a Remington automatic 597 mag in 17, which is a piece of crap. It is very accurate, but jams a lot. If someone would come up with a aftermarket magazine that actually works it would solve 80% of the problem.
My uncle had a savage .17, which was pretty decent, except for the absolutely awful magazine latch. I told him about the Henry, and he traded for one. Ever since I have wanted one.
Now that I think of it, I should trade mine off towards the Henry.

Getting the OSS 24/7, too? Perhaps.
Really, I have a hankering for a 1911, but will probably go with another quality rifle next. Or perhaps a CCW for the little lady.

Savage 99's are the coolest levers ever made. My first dear rifle. In 308 win.. Still got it. It's been through alot. Still shoots true after better than 30 yrs.. No way to count the rounds that have been through it. If i could i'd open a factory and start making them.

I've got a set of .44 mags.. a ruger vaquero and a model 94.
Lots and lots of fun... but the 94 is a toy next to the 99.
Everything you need to know about US military arms contracts can be learned by comparing the 99 to the 94.

Seriously.. mthead... look at the huge honking claw of an extracter on the 99... look at the controlled round feeding.. I mean... doesn't it look like a pre-64 bolt action winchester in there? the Model 94 is just a joke compared to that.

no doubt brother.
When we chose the beretta 92... we did so, in spite of the fact that it failed to meet several of the basic requirements listed in the specs the military requested.
I don't mean it didn't do as well as the other sidearms.
I mean it failed to qualify.
Still... we picked it.

YOU like Henry Rifles, Nate? You do know that they tout their supplying weapons to the Union in their ads, right?
Plus, DJ and I both thought their ad in this month's "American Rifleman" was VERY inappropriate.
They do make very purty weapons, though.

O.K. Nate, I don't get to play with body armour or night vision either. There both off budget for the foreseeable future. The only armour i can afford right now are trees. What protection levels are they up to? Last i heard they could stop a 7.62; but i'm sure thats under prefect conditions. Like your always going to be able to take one square in the trauma plate. I should start keeping up though. Got to know where to aim. I'd really like to see a REASON-able demonstration of it though. That would make a fun U-tube.

Paca and Redline both keep maticulous stats on those who've survived.. what they call "saves". The trouble is.. how many are really saves? since the majority of firearms deaths are the result of head and neck shots... not center-mass his.
THen again.. there are actually level IIA face masks available now dude.
Think badass hockeymask. Intimadating as hell. It is badass Kevlar... and it doesn't crack when hit by a +p 9mm. The best thing it has going for it is deflection. Its shape prevents it from ever taking a full force shot.
