Buy a motorcycle. Ride. Live.
Well, it's considered a sissy bike but I sure look badass on my new Honda Rebel, black with saddlebags, backrest, crash bar and windshield -Im lookin for some long leather straps to hand from the handlebars but my son says that may be too much for these high whitey suburbs. Come to think of it, he never really lets me ride much these days.
Ingrate. I taught him how to ride.

Nice scenery...a trip one could do very well as a nice little jog or walk through the woods - at least a small part of it. Backpacking would be a mighty fun adventure without having to endure the bugs flying in your face and the road grit I'm sure is normal on a motorcycle.

You holiday-having rednecks, you're making us Aussie rednecks look bad, we're supposed to be the great outdoors bums.

Oh, please, what do you guys have in Aussie land? A vast stinking wasteland? That's not "the outdoors". That's a dust heap!

You can pick a dual sport that gets mileage like that for 2 grand.
And all dual sports are badass.

A good dual sport is next on my list.
I love my dirt bikes, but I'm tired of hauling them to get to the riding.
I just want to hop on and go, dammit...

He rode the BMW. A cruiser is a beginner's bike.
We swapped bikes for a few miles and he has come to his senses.

They are good bikes for a great price. The 650 single-cylinder dual-sports/enduros will ride anywhere and have the power to keep up the speed, even on the freeways. Yes, I ride my BMW F650 on the interstates quite often. The only freeway I won't ride with it is "truckers' alley" (I-81) through the mountains here in Virginia.
Y'all have fun, Nate.

We have done I40 from Nashville to Memphis twice on dualsports. It was bad, but then on anything less than a sport-tourer traffic just locks you in place and you move with the truck conveyor belt. I seems as if you could walk all the way to memphis from the top of one truck to another.

I didn't even click on that one. I just gave the small version a quick glance.
I must concur with your assessment. I miss climbing them sorts of mountains. I really need to get some... tracks of land for myself.

Yep, that's I-81...hehe. But the mountains is what makes it a non-starter because the trucks struggle up one hill and run 80+ down the hills to get some leverage for the next hill. On the 650, you gotta be balls to the wall to escape the rush of rigs. That's what's not too fun on a thumper.

Hell, DD just pin it on 85 all the time. I do know what you are talking about; There are so many 18 wheelers you get locked in place and unable to find those big space cushions we all crave.

MM, The GS steers like a dirtbike and has the most confidence inspiring suspension of any bike I have ever ridden. Follow someone on one sometime and watch how they ride - shittin' and gettin' like it's no big deal - straight up in the saddle. The GS is the best non-sportbike to use to embarass your sportbike riding friends.
