Scratchy or not, they look fabulous! I'll be sure to choose some non-scratchy yarn when I take a stab at the pirate mittens. Come on, they're Pirate Mittens! I have give the fair isle a whirl for that.

Your mittens look nice, at least. Try felting them a bit; that may take out the scratchiness. I recently made mittens using one strand of wool and one strand of angora. they kind of matted and the result was soft and warm!
