I completely get the problems with kiri. especially that it gets bigger as you go, much nicer to work decreases! That's why I've never done kiri.
glad you're managing the "will I have enough yarn" stress of birch, its such a lovely pattern

My Inox Express needles do the same annoying thing! I do the hot water dunk, then a while later they are curly again. I find knitting while relaxing in the sun helps....

They are open most Sunday's, but not Easter - I made that mistake last year and almost did the same thing yesterday.
Your birch is lovely - I just can't handle casting on all those stitches, so I am planning on making kiri one of these days.

It seems like your quest for Rowan All Season's Cotton is coming along like my quest for GGH Goa -- dreadful. I know that we could order online, but...

I have no tricks for you, but putting it in boiling water too long, doesn't help. I did that once and the cord grew longer and longer and thinner as I pulled it out of the water *lol* it meltetd down:/.
I ran out of yarn while knitting birch, so I'll be crossing my fingers ( when I don't knit) for you...

I'm pretty much a heathen so Easter Sunday is fair game for yarn shopping in my mind but I think most of the retail yarn industry uses the holiday as an excuse not to open.

ooh, the suspense. can't wait to see Birch all finished.
And man, you seriously went to every single yarns store in NYC, haven't you? Poor thing. Wish I could help you out here but seriously, why won't anybody carry the stuff? It's good, decently-priced cotton/blend yarn. I love the stuff. Go figure.

I love all this suspense - must make for very exciting knitting! And wow, every yarn store? You had your own personal yarn crawl.
