Yeah, me too.
Friend of mine just started at UCL, I think he came up from the south, so he would have been off the tube; but still haven't heard from him. Many others live or work in London, but none of the rest were likely to be on these commuter routes.
The tactics are so different from the IRA style terror tactics that it will be very hard for modern societies to adapt to these threats; which is why they are so ominous as threats. Hard to see how to stop something like this, too many points of vulnerability and too easy to do some serious harm with small amount of material and manpower.

My condolence to people who died in London. I feel your pain. And I condemn killings of innocent people.
Am I the first to notice that The Madrid bombing happened eaxctly 911 days after 9/11, and today's London bombing happen exactly on the 119th day since the first anniversary of the Madrid bombing. 911, 119, these terrists seem to be extremely obsessed with particular numbers and it's too sad that they can carry out the attacks in a way of their choosing, on a date of their choosing. It's chilling.
Face it, there is simply NO defence against tactics of such terrior attacks unless we want to turn into a heavily fortified police state. One should feel uncomfortable about the fact that there has not been a single incident of terrior attack on US soil since 9/11. Not one, not a single one.
If one attribute that to the false assumption that there is not a single terrior cell in this country, or that our subways are too heavily policed that they never get a chance to sneak onto the subways, it would be deadly wrong. I hope I am wrong, but if I am not, God forbid, the evil doers are probably planning something big, way bigger than our worst imaginations, that's probably why they do not want any exposure by "little" things like blow up a subway train.

Steinn, what on earth do you mean by
"The tactics are so different from the IRA style terror tactics"
If you are one of these people who fell for the IRA's propaganda about only attacking militaary targets, then I suggest you do some research. They cheerfully mangled civilians too.
