I would bet anything that those homes are in the 9th ward. My understanding is where a mjor weak point in the system is.

Glad you are still on the air
Brendan,
your coverage remains the best
of any, the idiots on TV continue
to "cover" this story like it is
a big football game, they convey
NO idea of what the reality is
like to face this awesome force
of nature from an individual's view
point...which is the problem with
big media, they want a cozy,
slightly scary thrill ride that will
sell ad and sponsoer products while
people watch safely from their tv's
This storm is a wake up call that
nature remains pre emiminent and
people especially politicians
remain fence riders until it is
almost too late.
You are reporting the facts
unvarnished with editorializing,
and it is great.

I asked over at TWC's blog to confirm the report. It hasn't been repeated and it was said quickly.

Just wanted to thank you for giving us such excellent coverage.
All that wind speed and "Lots of rain here!" b.s. from the standard news media just doesn't answer the questions we're really asking.
As a Gulf Coast resident (Houston), I'm just heartsick over this. Thank you so much for giving us so much of the real story of what's happening to our friends in New Orleans.

Does anyone know the true number of people sheltered at the Superdome? I keep hearing 30-40k, but this morning CNN and FOX say it's between 8-9k.

It's about 30,000 people. Brendan had a post or 2 about it yesterday night.
The stations in NO are reporting that number.

There are between 26,000 and 30,000 people at the Superdome, according to what sounds like a well-sourced report on WWL's live streaming video feed.
That's from the post down towards the bottom of this page.
