Gravatar I FEEL THAT THEY NEED TO LET PEOPLE KNOW WHATS GOING ON IN THERE OWN PARISHES INTEAD OF WAITING THATS NOT RIGHT IM FROM JEFFERSON PARISH THEY NEED TO LET US KNOW WHATS GOING ON

Gravatar From http://www.nola.com/newslogs/bre...08.html#074962:

"Gov. Kathleen Blanco said at least 100 people were rescued from a Metairie nursing home and another 100 or more were plucked from the water or rooftops by Department of Wildlife and Fisheries boats."

I wish I knew more. A friend of my parents is in Metairie.

Gravatar Thanks, Brendan

Gravatar Thanks, Brendan

Gravatar Just a reminder - one of the reasons people aren't hearing what is going on is because we don't know. We just don't know . . . there's no way to know at this point.

http://www.wwltv.com/forums/view...ewforum.php? f=1

Try the WWL message boards - they have sticky topics on all the Parishes, and people are posting both requests for info and updates. Seems like a start, at any rate.

I certainly hope for the best for your loved ones and your homes.

Gravatar I understand your frustration Jainey, but the authorities' top priority right now is rescuing people whose lives are in danger, as it should be, not talking to the press about what is going on.

Gravatar Matt, I don't know anything about Metairie, but I hope your mother-in-law is alright.

Gravatar My brother is in Ochsner right now (talked to him 5 minutes ago) - he said damage to neighborhood was minimal...older homes leveled but he saw no other significant structural damage to surrounding warehouses/areas.

He thought they survived pretty well, but he's pretty upset b/c he knows his house is likely filled with water. He also wants to get out of town (my sister-in-law is essential personnel) very badly but can't.

Anyway, not sure what to tell you other than he did remark that he was surprised he saw so little damage...mostly flooding...only older wooden homes destroyed - and he's in Ochsner right now.

Good luck - God bless

Gravatar Greg, thank you! I'm hoping that his reports are the right.

Gravatar WDSU showed some video from Metairie - there is a fire spreading through that area from house to house, though nothing was said about the nursing home. It looked like it was above water, which seems like some measure of good news.

Gravatar What streets in Metairie are the fires located?

Also, has anyone heard any information concerning Lacombe, Louisiana? Specifically, south of I-12 located on Hwy. 190 near Brier Lake Subdivision. Thanks for any info you may have.

Gravatar I wish I knew. I just heard it was in Meterie, and I'm not a native, so I have no point of reference.

Gravatar Matt, I just now heard a LA Dept of Wildlife (etc) official on CNN confirm that his people, using 5 boats, have rescued folks from "a nursing home in the Metairie area".

Gravatar On the nursing home -- Gov. Blanco did announce earlier that a nursing home in Jefferson Parish was evacuated. She made that announcement while at the channel 2 (WBRZ) news station. I believe you could call that station and ask the reporters to get the specific name of the nursing home she was talking about. Call 225-336-2344 -- this is the number of the news desk and is the number they were giving out for people to call in with questions / information. I hope this helps.
