GREAT PICTURES, GREAT COVERAGE,
DO NOT LISTEN TO NEGATIVE WAVES...
Brendan,
You are doing a first rate job,
and telling the truths like you
see them, and this is very
very much appreciated in the face of
the "vanilla" sell air time style
of the big networks.
What few people seem to realize yet,
either from lack of experience with
major events or not thinking it
through:
People will NOT be going back home
for a long long time to much of
New Orleans, even if the water drops,
which will take a long time because
three of the huge pumps are out,
there is now sewage, waste, pollution,
disease carring agents and vectors
of all kinds EVERYWHERE....many of the older houses will have to be condemned, many of the people living
in them before will not be able to
afford to rebuild, the roads, rail
system and infrastructre of all kinds
is severely damaged, I heard at least
one major bridge on 10 is "comprimised"......and I just
must say that I heard one of the major
news anchors saying again and again
"people are asking when they can go home" over and over, don't they realize that this just delays the reality of what all those people must face, they will be in camps or refugees possibly for many months?
They are alive! Damage is so huge that this will have effects for not only the area, Mississippi, Alabana, but also the entire nation, already building materials are in short supply, with huge work in the tsunami region of Asia, China buying up tons and tons of cement, and now oil will be more expensive affecting everything, this has a ripple effect.
So Please Brendan, dont hold back, keep up the truth sharing, and please know you are doing an incredible job. I worried when we lost Peter Jennings, but I see that we will have a new generation of insightul and courageous and hard working people to come to the fore.
Thanks agian for it all.

Wow . . . I'd heard about the runaway platforms, but that's amazing.
Yeah, better close the bridge. Whadda figure that the bridge was never tested for the event of crashing with an oil platform?

Wow. That oil rig-suspension bridge picture is going to live in infamy. You certainly don't see that everyday.

My understanding is that the platform is technically a 'floating hotel' and not actually an oil rig. It is a structure designed to house workers only, and does not actually have the oil drilling/extraction paraphenalia. Since this is the case, and there is no oil or chemicals on the structure, it doesn't pose the same kind of environmental risks that an actual oil platform might if it were adrift like this.
