This is just so tragic. I'm in shock - this is not someone you'd expect to die so young. He was just at the beginning of his career.
I read that he was suffering from pneumonia and perhaps the combo of sleeping pills and anything he might have been taking for the pneumonia were a bad mix.
The housekeeper had said she heard him in his bedroom today at noon - I don't think this was a suicide or drug overdose - I think it could have been the sleeping pills that compromised his already weakened state. If anything, this was accidental - as simple as mixing two pills you shouldn't mix.
So sad. My heart breaks for his little girl, Matilda, for Michelle Williams, and for his family and close friends. RIP Heath.
I do not think he meant to end his life on purpose. It is so tragic that an incredibly handsome wonderful talent has left the world like this. I do believe his break up and separation from his child were strong factors in his behavior as of late. You really have not seen much of him since the split and if you have he looked like shit. So not typical for this handsome talented young spirit. My heart goes out to Michelle who I am certain foreshadowed this to a degree. Hang in there girl. You love him but could not fix him.
So young, such a shame. I loved him in "10 Things I Hate About You" first. Sounds like an accident. Prescription drugs can kill just as easily as street drugs.
RIP Heath. A great loss to everyone who enjoys film. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

I've been a fan of Heath since seeing him in "10 Things I Hate About You". I loved that he appeared to live his life to the beat of his own drummer - not taking roles he didn't like and dressing in his own unique style (which the tabloids loved to comment on).
I agree with another poster who said it could well have been an accidental mix of prescriptions (that is, if drugs were the cause). I'll believe this was an unintentional passing until proven otherwise - he just seemed too grounded. And something I just read on FoxNews reinforces that thought, 'WJW FOX 8 News in Cleveland interviewed Ledger in Nov. 2007 when he was promoting "I'm Not There." In the interview, he told FOX: "Being a dad changes your perspective — I don't want to die young.'"
My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends, especially his lovely daughter.

Thanks, Sheila. I had to write something, if for no other reason than that Heath Ledger was an immensely gifted actor, and his untimely death is one of those news stories you can't ignore.
Steve, something is up with the comments. When I pull up the main page, the bottom of this entry says there at 8 comments. But when I click on "comments", there are NO comments. If I had clicked on the title to this posting, I would have seen the comments. The other postings are doing the same thing.
Ok, now that I have posted that last comment, I can see all of the other comments. Hasn't this happened before??? It wasn't far enough in the past for my long term memory to kick in and help me recall what the solution was.

We Aussies are always so proud when one of our own does well, and Heath being from the actual area I live in was especially cool.
So so sad.
Now there are talks that a radical church ( godhatesfags...?) is planning on protesting at the funeral because they believe that Ledger promoted homosexuality.
I have no links as they have been broken already but I'm thinking they won't be able to afford the airfares to Perth. $3500
