I've tried the search and if I did it right (which always remains to be seen, lol) you didn't move this one yet: the tales of Jacob Robida. It's the case that really drew me into your blog and I'd hate to see it gone for good.

Steve,
WHY are you moving info from here to there?
WHY have you stopped doing your normal thing here?
Just wondered why. I also hesitate at suggesting what you should transfer...as all of your writings are beyond compare.
I currently see 10 visitors online as I write this....and this sharply conflicts with the hundreds and thousands that you have drawn before.. so what gives...and why are you going to go and write for someone else?
The above may be questions that remain unanswered but I at least wanted to ask them and see if any answers come forth in the churning thereof.

Becky, I get paid to do this other writing.
I have a family to support. My writing for Radar is about doing what I'm good at (I hope) and making a decent living at it, as well.
I like the format and I admire the types of writers who have done magazine writing before me (Radar's a print mag, too, not just a website. Crime Library was another website, no print media to go with it. That means a lot to me, that my work will be found on store shelves, too). Other writers whose work was published in style magazines prior to their books hitting the shelves have included Truman Capote, Norman Mailer, Sebastian Junger and many, many others.
As to the counters -- I see 23 here, and on other threads I see 100 or more. I didn't install them -- they come with the haloscan software and don't reflect the actual traffic to my blog. They reflect the number of people looking at that entry. If there are 180 entries on this blog and 10-20 people per entry -- you can do the math.
My traffic has been the same since moving here -- maybe a drop of 100 people or so a day in October, then back up to normal in November. I still have spikes of up to 15-20,000 visitors, depending on the story.
You may have misunderstood what I meant by transfer. I'm talking about moving entries that people liked at the other blogs to this one. I am not sure -- partly for technical reasons -- if I can resurrect CrimeBlog.US as it was. So I want this blog to have as much content as possible that long-time readers are familiar with and like.
And I'm puzzled by the "stopped doing your normal thing here" question. Have you looked at the archives? Recent, new entries that are identical in construction and type of content to stuff you've liked in the past:
http://tinyurl.com/324hcv
http://tinyurl.com/2k8vw8
http://tinyurl.com/3cmrpc
That's just a selection.
I love blogging, even though I don't like too many blogs (my current favorite isn't even a crime blog, and its owner might object to the label "blog," event though it is one -- DamnInteresting.com). I've never made any money at it, really. A blog post for Radar pays. A web exclusive for them pays. A print article pays -- well.
So, anyway -- because my writing for them is about making a living, too, it is a priority. If I made one mistake with Crime Library, Becky, it was sometimes making my blog a priority over the paid work I was doing for them. It got me good traffic, but it didn't earn me any money. One year of Google ad sense so far has netted me about $110.00.
It's obvious that I'm still blogging, though, and it's obvious that I've no plans to quit.
Becky, you of all readers should have my personal e-mail address. If you're puzzled or worried, or whatever, just e-mail and say so. I know I suck sometimes at writing back, but I'm working on that, I promise.

I think blogs should be for current info. Is there a way that you can archive the older entries & posts or blogs and provide a link to them from the homepage? Would the search function work for all of your blogs? I think you should make it as simple as possible for yourself. Readers can always look things up.
Emily Booth |

I'm glad you asked, Emily -- the entries would be back-dated to the exact date and time they were first posted. So, if I moved an entry that was first posted on 11/27/06 at 3:30 p.m., it would appear in this blog's November, 2006 archive. I never re-post a blog entry as if it is new unless there's a development in a case that warrants me doing so.
Once it's here, the search function would work to find that entry too, yes. The thing I've tried to do but couldn't was implement a re-directing system that steered users looking for a CrimeBlog.US post that WAS here to its equivalent whenever they tried to click the old link.

It seems to me that you could go to one of the contracting sites and get somebody to write you a sed, perl, awk, or python script that you could pipe the old entries through to convert them to the new format, Steve. It wouldn't be me, though; I can do about enough regexp work to get vi to behave if I need to do something only slightly unusual.

Steve,
I COMPLETELY RESPECT YOUR MOVE HERE to Radar and personal writing growth. I guess I am just sad over the death of crimeblog.us......it is like a relative just died.
Bottom line..you are so freaking talented!!! And I wish you the best always and whatever and whenever you write.
I know radar is a paying job and that you need it for your family. I also know that you have a knack and preternatural sense about unsolved cases and that you are rarely wrong. You HAVE A GIFT!
For anyone popping in here to read Steve or his blogments from readers first know, above all, that you are dealing with a man way ahead of his time and dedicated to victims.
Steve, I cannot think of a better guy than you.
(if you didn't swallow the grain of salt I embedded in my last comment go back and read it....I MEAN IT!)

yeah...you said that (above). I have spent many hours reading you and your blog. I am not surprised if the MSM has anything to add, input, etc. My words to spain and any other country who THOUGHT they could work it and find the best possible excuse. BOTTOM LINE...I have GOT to get this issue solved..and in the "Hood" I live...I am really impressed le!

I get so dang emotional when it comes down to you, Steve~O... Want to know why? It is because your care and compassion transcend what could be defined as the "noral" response.
Keep on keeping on, bra! Come high waters...and come hell...you will be more than adept at putting this whole thing together.

Dang, Becky, you are up LATE blogomenting! You are dead on with your references to Steve's talent. Take a bow, Steve! We love ya' man! Ok....enough of the gushy stuff. I honestly don't rememeber where certain cases are located anymore, but here are some of the ones that I think should be archived. They may not even be over at the old site, so ignore me if I am wrong. I would search here, but I am at work and already behind.
1. The Madeleine McCann case (obvious reasons).
2. The Haines family murders in Pennsylvania.
3. Kelsey Smith kidnapping fron Target in Kansas City.
4. Jodi Sanderholm kidnapping from Overland Park, Kansas.
I am sure there are others. These are the ones that are at the top of my mind with only one cup of coffee thus far. I think these cases are particularly significant because of the connection your blog made with people who knew the victims. One of the greatest services you offer is a format for people to connect and cope with the horror that these crimes create. These cases are also ones where I feel your insight was particulary dead-on.

Oh....I forgot to add what cases I think you should move....
I agree with all of what REEE put down above. I also wanted to add your work on our little buddy (dang I hate to even speak his name!) John Mark Karr.
Also your work on that case of the little boy that was abducted quite a while back (I cannot remember the name right now) supposedly for use in a sex ring etc (it also had a lot of conspiracy theory elements to it and his mother claims to have received items and notes telling her that he is still alive etc).
Sorry I cannot remember the name!
Yeah Soobs....yo soy una idiota LOL....when it gets late I need to shut down the master control and go to sleep. Toooooo Funny!
Steve,
You know that we all love ya! And one more time for me....the blonde....are you saying that you want us to comment and read your stuff over at Radar vs here?

Eyes -- if you saw CrimeBlog.US right now, it would look like there's nothing there. That's why I haven't done what you've suggested. I had to re-install the publishing program completely, but in the bargain, lost the link to my past entries. I accidentally deleted the domain at one point. No content was lost, but it was taken offline.

Becky, this:
"omment and read your stuff over at Radar vs here?"
Makes me think you need to read a little slower
I'm posting only very select entries about a narrow spectrum of subjects at Radar. The bulk of my crime blogging still takes place here. That's why I posted those links in an earlier reply to you demonstrating that my crime blogging here hadn't changed (it is a little slower, but like I said, I have paid work to do, too).
There's another entry just down the main page from this one that links to a Radar post and it says, "you can comment here if you prefer" or something to that effect, because Radar asks readers to register, and some people don't want to do that. The only thing I've asked people to do there, if they want, is click the "recommend it" link at the bottom of Radar articles -- if they truly "recommend it." You only need to click those once. But if I post here pointing people to a Radar article or blog post, you can discuss it on the post here.
Hope the mud has cleared a bit.

One case I was interested in was the murder of the Kenyan mother and her two daughters. The mom's first name was Jane and her son and his cousin were the only two survivors of some kind of home invasion attack. I would love to hear if anything has happened with that case.
As always, Steve, thanks for all you do! Keep an eye out for an envelope from me in your snail mail...you know how I feel about pay-pal! LOL!

Johnny Gosch - that is the boy Becky is referring to. He was abducted 25 years ago (9/25/1982) while delivering papers in Iowa. His mother was responsible for having his picture placed on milk cartons, and that is how that practice originated. His Mother is currently viewed as a bit of a quack because she is insistent on a global conspiracy of some sort being responsible for Johnny's disappearnce. She still maintains a website for him, and updates in frequently. If you want to take a trip down into the abyss, read through it. I don't know what to think about that case - I give her the benefit of a doubt, but dang, it is a tall tale to believe. Steve, did you ever blog on this case? I don't recall seeing it.

I think I may qualify as a long time reader, just not a prolific poster! I love your writing Steve...where ever you go, I go.
I agree with D.P. The only one I could think of that I did not see after doing searches was Jane Kuria.
I think I read the story of Chloe Davis from Michelle Gray on your blog first (I hope I'm remembering that correctly!) I didn't see that either, but we do not have resolution to that story yet. I've kind of been stalking her my space to see if she has posted the ending yet

I've been wondering what has become of the Haines murder story. I read that the Haines house recently went up for sale, and that no trial date has been set yet. It seems like a long lull....any news on your end? Whatever happened to Alec Kreider in the meantime?

I found this site during the Haines murder story. I would suggest moving that here. Sue, other than the recent info concerning the house up for sale, there has been no info on the case. I mean nothing. Presumably, Alec Kreider is still in jail and there has been no mention in the local papers as to any trial date set. I cannot understand why the time lapse is so long without a date even being set.
I think I'd rather get punched in the groin than read one more post by nursebeeme.

Just a thought- but why don't you propose to Radar that you blog on their website. With the traffic you command they would be silly no to pay you for your loyal followers. That would get a lot more readers for Radar. It seems like an obvious, and lucrative, partnership to me.

is there a way regular readers of ur blog could hammer things out without u??? like a message board that everyone could goto - i not only miss your regular work but i miss the comments of your regular readers--like the new case of Emily Sander, the college student who was also a porn star, looks like they found her body and there's a trail across the internet of some of the people involved, would love a forum to discuss and read about it, this seems like a case u would have been all over if u werent busy with all ur other gigs. well it probably wouldnt work without ya anyway, but was a passing idea

Mr. Huff:
Two stories here that I have been checking on nearly daily, and intently waiting for them to re-appear are regarding "Jane Kuria" and "Judy Gough" ("Kuria's" entire story w/ posts are gone, and "Gough's" prior posts have vanished). I know this happened when the "site" was getting a make-over. Kuria's story, in my opinion, needs to be told, and I sincerely hope that the neighborhood "informant" has continued to keep checking back ~ there has been nothing reported to date that I have been able to find. Gough's story is just coming to light . . . people with knowledge are finally coming forth and want to speak.
I realize that I may not be considered an "old" poster, but please do know that I've been here lurking long before I ever starting posting, do know that I appreciate what you do here more than I can put into words, you have a flare that is untouched, your intuition from the start of a story makes me wonder if you are like my mother (that is scarey), and I promise to donate more in the near future (finally seeing the end of baby bills).
You rock, I am happy that you are finally getting the recognition you deserve, getting paid for work well done, and hope and pray that you will not abandon us

Sorry, here I go again after reading comments above . . .
Joseph Duncan: Anything happens with regard to him, it is front page news here, of course. I would be happy, if it would help, in posting that in comments. Just give me the word.
Trenton Duckett: Important to many.
There are others, but am totally brain-dead at the moment . . . mother by day, paying baby off by night.
By the way, I wanted to know if CourtTV has plans of putting your segment on their website for viewing? CourtTV was my daytime grey noise for years, they had a increase in fees, and our cable company dropped the channel. Yes, that day my husband knew not to speak to me !

Congrats to you Steve!Much deserved.I would like to see the Richardson's family murders brought over if possible. We had alot of good info in the comments. The daughter recently went to trial and was convicted, being a Canadian I am not allowed to say her name here as she is a young offender. Her boyfriend Jeremy Steinke has yet to go to trial for his part in the killing of her whole family. She will be out of jail within 5 years, for the first degree murder of three people, rather sickening.Alot of interesting information come out in her trial,I am not sure how many of the old crew who all helped out some 18 months ago when we were all sleuthing their various vampire pages and whatnot, but if anyone is interested in the details I have it all documented at my forum. Thanks again Steve for just being you,and the great work and stories you bring us.
