Tyler Gray, who was one of my editors at Radar, has written a book about Perlman, Nancy. I'm looking forward to reading it.
And you can partly blame Michael Ian Black for me taking the muzzle off, at least a little. I realized one reason I found Michael's writing and his TV work so funny was he simply goes with it. Of course there's an art to humor and humor writing, but the best stuff is arrived at honestly -- not just humor; all writing. Part of what Michael does is honestly straight from the gut. I've moved too far from that kind of motivation.
Michael said this in an e-mail recently: "I'm just more interested in writing about whatever interests me at the moment. Or not at all." He said that in response to my pointing out a suggestion made by another reader of his blog. I think it hit me then -- I used to do that. Then, I stopped. Of course I have wanted to write about crime, but I began writing more about what I thought readers might want to know. That's not gonna happen on a blog I own, anymore. Even if it's obscure or not a big story to you (the generalized you) I may be interested, and I may have something to say. I may also have nothing to say about the biggest stories of the day. I will no longer feel apologetic about that -- I think long-time readers liked it when I was in that zone. So I'm going back. And it feels better, already.
NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! I love it when you get naughty, Steve! LOL! I would rather read Steve unmuzzled anyway! Rock on, brotha!
Steve- We have the news to give us the blow by boring blow of stories. I come here because I like to read a different take, (Yours), and because for the most part the commenters are mentally competent. (Ok, well maybe not on some of the insane sections regarding certain cases ala "Greater Evil")
Crime is hard because it seems appropriate to be sensitive to the vicitms and victims families, but I still believe you can tell a story YOUR way, (opinions, cuss words, humor, and all), and still be respectful. Besides, I don't get to see POS like Israel called "dickheads" on CNN. Speak on my brotha!
Steve- I'm glad to see you are back and doing what you do best. I little time away from us must have been just what you needed!
This is your house so make the rules as you wish. If someone out here doesn't like the way you run the place then its time for them to start hanging out somewhere else.

Steve - What makes this blog a must-read for me for the past couple of years is the singular combination of solid reasearch and analysis, keen insight and the stellar quality of your writing. Those charactaristics serve as the backbone of every snippet you put out, no matter if you include "dickhead" or even more colorful commentary. Clearly we all also enjoy the color. What matters most is that you are happy, healthy, and writing! Thank you for all that you do. Dickheads beware!

I'm always surprised that these 'smart guys' like Israel are so horribly incompetent at getting away with it. Really, it isn't that hard - you can set up a series of 'fall guys' between you and the crimes that make it impossible for even the feds, who are as crooked as the mafia, to get to you. Smart? Dumb!
