The truth is that the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all girls ages 11-12 get the vaccine. Go to their website to learn their true views and real data on this vaccine. One advisor's remarks have been taken out of context by social conservative organizations like PROVE and have been circulating around the internet.
Also, Phase I and Phase II testing of this vaccine was done for three years. It has proven to show an almost 100% prevention of cervical cancer. It is so effective that it would have come to market earlier if not for the actions of social conservatives holding it up.
Those of us who have 12 year old daughters, and who are fortunate enough to have health insurance, already have the luxury of eliminating the dread of HPV from their lives hopefully forever. Poor children and those without access to health care are given NO choice in getting the vaccine if your wishes come true.

Muse, we have to agree to disagree here.
Health care decisions are personal and not to be mandated by our government. Period!
Vaccines for chickenpox, etc. should be mandatory, because they can be spread by casual contact - 1 infected child can take out a whole school.
HPV vaccine should not be mandated, for exactly that reason. It is an individual health care decision.

Muse,
If PROVE is circulating misinformation and the AAP adviser's quote was taken out of context please inform us of the correct context as I have read the Washington Post article.

Unfortunately Muse the way Perry handled this by Executive order was wrong. There is a reason for our governmental process. Who is Perry to mandate a vaccine that should be a personal family decision. I agree with Fred, it is not necessary to mandate due to contagious reasons. While it is unfortunate that many children do not have access to healthcare in our country, permitting this vaccine to be mandatory does not solve all healthcare problems for that segment of society. Stop looking at this as a Social Conservative push to prevent the vaccine to come to market. I am a grandfather of two and have never voted for a republican in my life however this is wrong on many fronts.
