Right but....I think the point was Jesus may have married/boned women but the way the story ended up being told to us was changed, to fit someone's agenda. Atleast that's how I take it.
Anything could have happened, but we've been told a version people have chosen to believe.
And I have a hard time believing you really want a girlfriend, don't see how you wouldn't have one, if you really wanted one, you know. (I have a feeling that'll come out really bitchy, but it isn't, kind of a compliment..actually...sort of...either way it's not in a bitchy way! ha)

I don't think Jesus had time for a relationship, at least not during the period covered by the bible. Being a prophet and the son of God charged with saving mankind seems like it would have been a full-time job. Also, he traveled a lot and hung around with a pretty rough crowd. Not really the best environment for a wife and kids.
I have always been fascinated by ancient Egypt so the bible stories that involve the Egyptians are my favorite.

when did i say i thought Jesus was white?
i give you Revelation 1:14 & 15 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. meditarianian. born in israel, moved to africa, then moved back to israel. definately closer to black than scandanavian, but i dont choose my messiahs on the color of their skin, and i dont wait till 11 for my news either.

tony, i respect you as a writer and as a man. and, i don't doubt that jesus christ--if he really existed--was very likely of a dark-skinned racial descent. but however you spin it, if you are that much a believer in the New Testament, that you are worshipping the white man's cult.
god is not an old man with a beard, sitting in the clouds and ruling all. man is not the center of the universe. 'god' is life. the spirit is everything, timeless and interconnected.

The Davinci Code is a great novel and I don't think we should turn our backs on first-hand historical documents that give us a glimpse of how the Christ cult came into flower (The "Judas" Testament as well as the rest of the Gnostic Gospels and The Dead Sea Scrolls which were hidden in the deserts of the Middle East and Africa to protect them from the HRC Church's book burning ceremonies).
C'mon dude, I respect your beliefs and acknowledge that the world is a better place because it has Christians in it--but we should still nod in reverence to a great story or an alternative historical point of view.
And if you really love the Bible, then as a bookophile you deserve the best Bible made by man (only $250).

The main point is "how good have i been to myself" - not to the girlfriends.
Maybe we spend too much time sometimes - thinking about the others not ourselves. The true love to yourself can be the beginng of a lifteime's romance!

Also at the end was part one of a story on threats of stratifying the internet and service level that could really impact all of us who aren't fox or other big corporations...check it out, i think you'll be interested.

Yes, the Bible does tell a better story. My favorite passage in the Moses/Pharaoh drama is in Exodus 10:
Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go in to Pharaoh; for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may show these signs of mine among them, and that you may tell in the hearing of your son and of your son's son how I have made sport of the Egyptians and what signs I have done among them; that you may know that I am the LORD."
God holds Pharaoh by the back of the head while punching him over and over, just to show how kickass he can be? Now *that's* something to chew on!

ryan,
indeed. the Old Testament Yahweh is a very interesting, if not curious God, whose mind changes almost by a whim. Who gets very very angry at times at sometimes the strangest things. He's vengeful and bitter and extremely violent and creative in his vengence.
to me it proves that the Bible isnt propaganda or something written by old preachers in the middle of a convent because this God thats being written about has many flaws, does not seem to understand man any more than Himself, and in many ways with Moses is a reluctant partner as opposed to Leader.
that relationship, to me, is very believable, and speaks precisely to the concept that we were made in His image, as opposed to the popular belief that God is someone who we would never understand because he is Perfect and Different, etc.

Joshua,
if i were a Republican i would also be looking at every conceivable way to push people's noses out of the KJV of the bible too. because it preaches against the hoarding of wealth, it commands people to take care of the poor and the elderly, it preaches those who have two cloaks to give one to those who have none. and the new testament teaches that war is not the answer, nor are possessions, nor are rich princes or kings.
indeed the bible that has been around forever teaches that All the green plants are here for our use, that consensual sex between two unmarried people is fine, and that being afraid means that you dont trust God enough.
the Republicans are the ones who hold back the legalization of marijuana, the Republicans are the ones who are the ones hung up regarding sex on tv and on the radio and in people's bedrooms, and the Republicans are the ones who say "vote for me or else they will 'hit us' again."
while hoarding their wealth, while raising tuition fees so that the poorest cant afford college, while sending the poor to fight wars based on lies.
it doesnt suprise me at all that you would want others to read nonsense like the Divinci Code and call it a great book instead of the Good Book - simply because Jesus is the furthest thing from a Republican as it could get - sharing his food with the crowd, breaking up the money changers in the temple, sacficing Himself for the good of others. you people know nothing of that nor would you want to.
so please, do what you need to do so you can sleep at night, but of all places dont waste your time trying to spread that trash in the hallowed grounds of the busblog.

It's not just the Republicans who are hung up about sex on TV and the radio. The most vocal person on the FCC about indecency these days is Commissoner Michael Copps, a Democrat. The other Democrat on the Commission Jonathan Adelstein is also pretty vocal, though his pet issue is payola. The Republicans are interested in indecency when there is a big thing like the SuperBowl but on a daily basis they are more interested in deregulating so their friends in big business can make more money and squeeze out the little guys.

Copps is a dem in name only. which doesnt mean that id call him a republican as much as just an overall hater. Copps is someone who id love to see on the Daily Show being interviewed by Stewart whose first question should be, "exactly what plank of the Democrats do you subscribe to?"

You're preaching to the choir about mariujuana legalization, but it isn't just the Republicans responsible for that--drug-related arrests skyrocketed during the Clinton presidency as well as the previous administrations from Nixon's on and to me this just proves to me that there really is only one party in power--corporate money.
And I do think the DaVinci code is a great novel. Dan Brown is one hell of a good fiction writer, but I'm not taking the book to alter either. It's a story and if a great story like Harry Potter, The Celestine Prophecy (to be released in film version next Friday) or the DaVinci Code threatens someone's faith then I'd question the strength of their convictions as fly by night ATM worship.
Faith comes from within and burns all obstacles to a withered crisp. Anyone who tells you different is selling something.
And the King James version of the Bible is the only one I will ever read because that New World bullshit takes all the poetry out and some smart German sumbitch once said that poetry is being able to hear the words behind words. If a spiritual text can't open itself up to a vast silence beyond all the opposites and petty conceptual constructs of the mind of man, then its worthless as a spiritual guide in my mind.
The Bible is full of great metaphors but the end question is What is it doing for you? If being a Christian makes you a better person and helps you contribute to your community, I say "Ah Salud." But if it is used as a weapon of conquest and ideological war, I say that is the root problem behind all misery in the world.
Despite Bush's rhetoric about being saved, it's very clear that his God is that of the Old Testament--a ruthless motherfucker with a bunch of rules and no mercy.
Bill Maher said it best: "The only thing that President Bush has in common with Jesus is that they both went into their father's business and got crucified.
For the record, I'm an Independent (like you according to your Wikipedia profiel), not a Republican; but I have voted that way twice.
I'm praying to Geebus that a decent Third Party candidate shows themselves very soon for 2008...please Geebus, please!

dude,
you voted for BushCo twice and you think that the clintons are fascists.
youre against michael moore, cindy sheehan, and the war hero john kerry.
youre about as independent as Bush is mexican.
the only reason you want a third party candidate is because it would kill you to vote for a dem in the next presidential election, for a real Independent doesnt look for third party candidates he looks for leaders who will get the job done regardless of party affiliation.
youve outted yourself for what you are, a shamed republican. which is fine because if i was a republican who helped get this adminstration in office id be full of shame too.
what you need to do is stop reading fantasy novels, stop voting against the party who was far more successful in their 8 years in the oval office, and stop bullshitting in the comments of the busblog.

I'm not ashamed at all that I voted for Bush. I voted for power that leads and I saw no power or leadership in Al Gore or John Kerry. I saw weakness and plasticity in both--pussywillows who bend with the changing wind.
Leadership is a steel post, not a weathervane.
In Al Gore, I saw a man who started off as a conservative Republican who originally voted against a woman's right to choose and then tried to become an uber-liberal when he thought it suit his political ambitions (and remember when Tipper was head of the PMRC and put Ice-T and 2 Live Crew on trial for obscenity? These are the people you thought would legalize marijuana?).
And in John Kerry I saw a traitorous lech who rode a wave of anti-war sentiment into office and built his career and self-image on a shit pile of lies and botox injections.
And I know my history--it wasn't Republicans lynching blacks, instituting cruel minimum wage and Jim Crow laws to keep them from earning a living wage in the south and forcing them to flee north.
It wasn't the party of Lincon who hung the Confederate flag from the South Carolina state capitol in the year 2000 of your Lord. And if Nixon would have had an inkling of foresight to respond before Kennedy did to Martin Luther King's letter from a Birmingham jail, we wouldn't be having this discussion because you'd most likely have a GOP voter card in your wallet like generations of slave descendents before the 1960 election.
Fascism is one step to the right of socialism, as I've said time and again and if the shoe fits, then may the house fall on Hillary so the munchkins can dance around her failed attempt to seize power from whatever Putsch she's planning for 2008.
The thing is, for a Christian, you don't seem to me to have very much forgiveness in your heart when it comes to politics. You have been a stone fucking wall whenever I have tried to reach out to you, independent thinker to independent thinker. It always comes back to how I voted for Bush and why you're so much better because you voted for a loser--twice.
I thought we were supposed to render unto Caesar the things which were his? I guess I just find it interesting that in a conversation that started about religion, you consistently come back to attack my politics.
The bottom line is that I come from a world where my family and friends all vote Republican, invest their money wisely, and get richer every year--this is my paradigm.
You come from LA, a place as alien to me as the musky scent of an orgasming vagina is to Richard Simmons; but one I continue to come back to the busblog every day to look through the prism of and try to catch a glimpse of what it's like to be you.
We operate under different paradigms; so why can't you respect that difference and get over the politics? I threw in with the side that I felt had better leadership and thank goodness we'll never find out if I was wrong. In fact, for what it's worth; I cast the deciding vote in the deciding state of the 2004 election and I will never apologize for it. I am the one who elected Bush--twice. If that means that every comment I make on your forum is suspect and called bullshit by you then I think that shows the limits of your heart and mind.
So, to get back to my original point--The DaVinci code is a fantastic novel, which is why it has been on the New York Times #1 best seller list for 158 weeks. And the Judas Gospel, and the Nag Hammadi and Dead Sea Scrolls are as important to serious religious scholarship as the discovery of the human genome by Watson and Crick was to science in the 1950s. And anyone who's read The Gospel According to Thomas knows that the Gnostics knew the heart of Jesus far more than the filtered and revised New Testament could ever hope to convey.

Joshua your head is so far up your ass you confuse so many different things like the difference between leadership and stubbornness, the party of lincoln and the party of bush, and best selling novels from the best selling book of all time.
first the easy part. being a leader doesnt mean not changing your mind. being a leader means 1)having a plan 2)adjusting that plan when things start going to shit 3)communicating in an honest manner 4) getting your job done.
your boy Bushie has not only failed at all of the above, but he's fooled you and others into thinking that to be a leader means to have your head in the sand and keep it there. thats not a leader, thats a fool.
a parrott can chirp "stay the course" but that doesnt mean that the parrott knows anything. bush doesnt know anything.
in the Bible we see lots of leaders change their minds and listen to smart people. Even God listened to Moses by not striking down the Jews in the desert, and he changed his mind after the flood by seeing his mistake of flooding the earth and promising never to do something that drastic again. what has Bushie promised never to do again after all his failures? nothing.
changing your mind is part of learning, its part of growing, its part of getting the job done. in football if you see your running game isnt working you start passing. you dont "stay the course" to appear manly and like a leader. for if you keep running youre going to get your ass handed to you. bush has his ass handed to him and looks like a fool.
and you look like a fool by staying the course with your idiotic support of the man and your decision to vote for him. only a fool would say that they're happy that they didnt vote for kerry after these last 5 years. a fool or a stockholder of haliburton that is.
because its inconceivable to you that a war hero and a 20 year senator could have done a better job than bush Simply because he's a democrat not only proves that youre not an Independent but proves your a foolish and deceptive republican who tries to bullshit people in the comments of the busblog. those people get no respect here.
neither do those who think that simply because theres an (r) next to someones name means that theyre the "party of lincoln". the party of george w bush has very very little to do with the party of lincoln let alone the party of any republican era - even his own father. how you can know less about your own party than you do about good books is ponderous, but you are.
bush's dad was seriously about less government and less spending. he didnt do it, but he tried. and he changed his mind when he found that he had to. read my lips no new taxes got him elected but because he was somewhat responsible he did roll out new taxes because he had fucked up in other ways and Had to get some money into the coffers.
his son is such an idiot he just keeps spending. despite going to war. despite having no new ways to pay for it. thats not leadership, thats recklessness. thats your boy. and youre proud.
i have no forgiveness for you because you dont ask for forgiveness. you dont say, "yep i voted for the wrong man, forgive me," you say, like an idiot "high five i voted for the Winner!"
no you voted for the loser. the worst president ever who was part of the most scandleous corrupt administration and political party this nation has ever seen. their lies are too numerous to count, their deceptions pile up each day, only to be overshadowed by their failures. heck of a job brownie.
they were warned about 9/11 and then lied about it. they had the world behind them and they squandered it. they swore there were wmds and links to 9/11 and when they were proven wrong they said nothing. theyve tortured and imprisoned and killed innocent people and tried to change the law to continue it. theyve wiped their ass with the constitution and you continue to support them because they have an R next to their name.
you need forgiveness but you wont get it until you beg for it because youre truly sorry for being part of the problem.
im better than you for lots of reasons but the biggest is because when i see where im wrong and when i have affected change in a negative way - especially one filled with blood and corruption and utter failure - i get on my knees and plead for forgiveness. you on the other hand stay the course of idiocy like your president like your state like 30% of the morons of this country.
i was wrong by addressing you. im sorry i did it. and until you get your head out of your ass i wont trouble my readers with addressing you again.

I can't take anyone too seriously when they think that a book that has passed through so many hands over the last 2000 years hasn't been fucked with in anyway, especially in a period of over 1000 years of sheer oppression... 2000 years! and to think Christianity was only passed around by word of mouth for some 400 years before it really began to take hold....hmmmm
I know way too many good people of other faith that I just can't see not getting the opportunity of heaven if it exsists.
Most, of not all major organized religions within themselves are just too arrogant for me to get caught up in.
Da Vinci Code is a fun fiction read with some historical facts sprinkled in and no more.

I think you're both idiots for voting for Bush or Kerry. They both suck and neither of them would have done/has done/ is doing/will do a good job in that office.
