I'm not sure... it doesn't seem to make that much difference to me.
I've found that my most popular blog posts tend to become popular days if not weeks after I've written them (when someone far more a-listy than I am picks them up).
There are some thoughts from Darren Rowse here you might find interesting:

Leisa,
Thanks for the comment. I tend to see the same thing in terms of pick-up way after the fact. This usually tends to happen about the time that the search engines pick up the post.
And thanks for the link. So if I'm reading it right, now I not only have to learn to write and cover interesting topics, but I have to make it interesting enough that one of the big-traffic blogs grab it?
Whoof. Minor hurdle.

I read you because you are interesting and not because I found you on some so called A-list blogger.
FWIW, I read you in the mornings when I tend to check that email that comes to me with news of a post.
You should write and cover interesting topics because it pleases you to be the best at what you do.

Deannie,
To be honest, "interesting" is the highest compliment I can receive. As long as I'm not boring you to tears, I'm happy. Interesting? I'm jubilant.
And really good point on the email blast. If the FeedBurner email (gratuitous plug: you can sign up right over there on the hypocritical sidebar) is hitting people's inboxes at a different time than when I publish, then it might not matter as much when I publish and ping.
As always, Deannie, thanks for taking the time to stop by, to read, and to join in the conversation. I always appreciate your voice in the mix.

OK, you got me on this one. Why haven't I been over here before? After all we are both part of 'LIB' (live around DC for thirty-umpteen years and everything's an acronym).
Anyhow, you've got a great style and I laughed out loud for real - which is the highest complement I allow myself (who knows - I think it's a little thread of the Calvinist gene at work) and as a result I've got too many irrelevant thoughts to share them in a comment.
Now you've done it; I'm going to be forced to write a post on a subject I keep putting on the back burner.

Susan,
Thanks so much for the kind words. Hopefully, you were laughing out loud at the subject matter and not my abhorrent syntax. Oy, sometimes I can't even follow what I'm saying.
On second thought, what do I care? Laugh at whatever you like, just keep coming back. And lauding me with compliments.
Good luck with that formerly-on-the-back-burner post. I'm happy to accept full blame for motivating you to churn it out.
