I too was very surprised they cut Venafro. I am sure he will go to another team. There is no reason for him to rot in AAA after his performance this spring. Durbin should not be in the race as far as I am concerned. Yeah its embarrassing for the Twins because he has not developed yet. I am not sure what they are going to do now.

After watching some spring training games. I am suprised they cut Venafro too. He was the only thing reliable out of all the relievers. I guess 0.00 is not good enough. What a shocker. I hope some fans scream out to Gardy and tell him to wake up. It just doesn't make any sense. Even more shocking is Durbin is not cut. Can somebody help me figure this one out. I can't.

Sure. First, do you know that Venafro can refuse the assignment? The default on a minor league deal is that the team can send him to the minors. Admittedly, many veterans add clauses that allow them the out. I just don't know that Venafro has one.
Second, it's 10 innings. And it's Mike Venafro.
Third, do you give up on Durbin, who is just starting to pitch against top competition for the first time since his injury? Frankly, he showed too much last year.
Fourth, do you think the Twins would send Venafro to the minors this early if they didn't have control over him?
Fifth, who do you think the Twins will need more going forward? The best case Silva, the best case Durbin, or the best case Venafro? Note that best case Venafro is nowhere near a 0.00 ERA.
I'm personally not going to worry if the relatively bad Venafro, who would basically be the basis for Gardy micro-managing (and screwing up as usual when he does micro-manage), doesn't make the team out of spring training--regardless of whether he has an option to be a free agent or not.
