I'm a big fan of WordPress. I have three blogs through them and am in the process of setting up a fourth.
If you want to change to your own domain name, Wordpress will help you with that too. I haven't done it, but will soon.
I've already told you about my webhost. He's the best of the best in terms of service and an all round nice man.
I went to geek school with him. He is extremely reasonable too. Your blogher revenue will easily pay your hosting fees.
I'm going to watch the comments to this one. I have wanted to jump ship, but I am clueless. I want my own domain name and haven't a clue how to do that either.

Have you thought about a mac account - it would also do your email, Mac's iweb is VERY easy, and can contain your blog - seems to work well for me, and I'm a techno phobe!
Since I'm still in blog infancy, posting Bloggeredly away (I told you I was practicing making up words), all I know is that Wordpress seems to be the most user-friendly for non-WP users. But we'll follow you anywhere, so just let us know!

If you didn't know this, hubby and I have a server that we host websites on and I'd offer you a good deal since you are my sister and all! I have my blog self-hosted but using the blogger templates and stuff, so not sure how it works the other way around programming wise!

I love Wordpress (I'm self-hosted), so I think you're doing the right thing moving there. Unfortunately I don't feel comfortable recommending my server (Site5) since I've had trouble with them from time to time (once for a few weeks). On the other hand, that's the only problem I've had, and my sister has used them for a couple of years. Still, I would look somewhere with a cleaner slate.

I've noticed a lot of people doing this same thing. I'm absolutely no help at all, but will say I do love Typepad. Goodluck on finding something!
I use Solid Internet. I do have issues with down times once in a while...BUT, they are the least expensive out there...and their customer service is AMAZING. They're located in Australia, so they work during our nights, which works perfectly for this night owl. BUT, if you aren't a night owl it usually takes them no less than 12 hours to respond to your question/issue. I can email them in the morning and have a response by the time I'm up the next morning.
AND, as I said, they are the least expensive out there that I've found. You can pay month by month...or pay for the FULL year and get two months off (making a full year only $60!!)!!
