too bad you're not rooting for the non-Orthodox.... because otherwise my conversion is no good and therefore any dream of aliyah is lost.

Is there a book that covers the Previous Rebbe's visit to Israel? The Rashag went along, right? How long was it for and was there an "official" purpose to the visit? Thanks.

yes there is a book - and I can't vouch for its trustworthiness, but it is called "Masa HaRebbe B`eretz Hakodesh."

I just realized that it sounds like I am disparaging the book above - that was not my intention.
What I meant to say is that I have never read it, I don't know who wrote it, and I don't know if it is good or not. I have never even heard anyone comment on it - all I know about it, is that it exists.

Its a very interesting book. Its based on a short contemporaneous account of the Rebb's sojourn in Israel by Rabbi Glizenstein , which just records the roshe perokim. Like all accounts I can not ascertain what it leaves out, but it seems to be a fine descriptive account.
The unpublished Yoman of the rayaatz obviously includes much more personal data..

Schneur, the Yoman is legendary, with many rumors floating around regarding its content (some of it allegedly sharply critical of many well known personalities). People keep quoting from it, but do you know anyone who has actually seen it? Where is it today?

The book is written by Dovid Rotenberg, the mythilogical 'dovid10' of chadreichareidim, hydepark

I have the Yoman of 1929-1930 in typescript.I suspect many other do too.Is this an authentic document ?
Bere Gourary felt it had been tampered with in the period of 1950-1951 . Whats the generally accepted daas hakohal ?
Indeed there are numerous critical and sharp observations against the rashag and his behavior aboard ship and the like.
But the Rayaatz saves the most critical comments for the American orthodox rabbinate and several well known Polish rabbonim.

Schneur, WHAT DOES ONE HAVE TO DO TO GET A COPY OF THIS? Where is the hand-written original?

The answer to the first question is I need to find my copy on a my table -desk filled with lots of junk and some good stuff.I then can copy it for others if I am assured that there si no hakpoda against this sort of action.
The second question is a shtarke kasha. Bere may have had a authentic copy but I doubt it. How about some of the Anash around in 1950-51.I wanted to mention a few names but I thought better of it.
Shamayti , that the rebbe was angry in terms of the removal of this yoman and the publication of notes from it. Is this the case ?

... the Rebbe was angry about the removal of this yoman and its publication...
I vaguely remember hearing the same. And it rings true. There is, in all likelihood, a kpeida against publishing in a public forum. But do you think that also applies to a private sharing it with someone who is simply chaleshing to read it?

It was common practice among chassidim to "steal" kesavim, whenever their availability became known. I don't know if this applies to a Yoman, but if so - I too would love to procure a copy!

In Avrum Ehrlich's book Leadership In the HaBad Movement, he discusses critical writings of the Rayatz on the Rashag that surfaced after Yud Shevat 5710, and the Rebbe (then only the Ramash until Yud Shevat 5711) harshly prohibited their dissemination. Are those the same writings referred to above by Shneur that the Rayatz was critical of the Rashag on the ship?

In the 1970's, Lubavitch foundation of UK published a book by Mr. Rader called "Challenge, Chabad in Israel". At some point, Mr.Rader was in Yechidus and he mentioned to the Rebbe that he was planning on publishing a Yoman of the FR trip to EY.
The Rebbe became very serious and asked him where he had the Yoman from, until, Mr. Rader mentioned, that he was refering to the Yoman mentioned here by Glizenstein I think.
Legufo Shel Inyan, I would be VERY frightened to deal with this particular package, and I like to think of myself, as a "rational free thinking individual".

Atlas, this particular expression is "required reading" at the Lubavitch "לחלוחית" school!

To the "uninitiated": The above expression comes from the following משל: A Russian goy, who was caught with a pair of stolen tefillin, defended himself by exclaiming: "Ya sam sapozhnik!..." - "I myself am a shoemaker and I made these "laptie" (~shoes)".
