Ah yes, once again we touch upon the topic of geographicisism. But we all know the truth - we're the best, and everyone simply doesn't measure up...

I do find it interesting the sometimes great distance he traveled from job to job. Do you know how the process worked for hiring a Rav in those days?

No, but I read the transcript of the Alter Rebbe’s interrogations where he described how corrupt the process had become toward the end of the Vaad Arboh Arotzeis period. (Like rich people buying rabbinic positions from the gentile nobility!)

So the problems surrounding installing Rabbonim are nothing new (even going back to Kohanim Gdolim)... and it still goes on in other forms today.:(
By the way, if it's any consolation, Reb Pinchos Koretzer was Byelorussian ;-) (His father, a Rav & Magid, and family ran away from Shklov due to some bilbul - see Shivche Baal Shem Tov).
