Boruch dayan ho'emes. What will become of the Algemeiner Journal now ? The decline of Yiddish among Lubavitchers has been discussed here before. Are the days of the Algemeiner Journal numbered ? It seems to have been declining for some time, and has shrunk in size, while the English section has grown. It can be difficult to get new Yiddish writers.

I nominate Schneur to be the next editor. Of course, then they might have to remove the description of the late Rebbe as 'mh"m' from the top of weekly full page of his teachings. ;-)

Will this do?

Looks like another "family" buisness...

Tzemach,
Did you notice? He, like a few others before him, was discussed on this blog not so long ago:

(See Sidney's comment, and those further down the thread as well...)

Gravatar I think it's a great opportunity to finally close shop... What a tribute to GBJ if the Algeimener ceased to exist after his passing...

Gravatar Tzemach, did you write that obit?

Gravatar No, it was emailed from the SJ list. I guess Simon wrote himself. Although he did not sign it.

Gravatar Do you think GB himself wrote it :-)?

Gravatar a true jornalist spins forever, ahem.

Gravatar I join in the mourning for REb Gershon.
Hopefully after the ritual mourning period is over we on this blog can have a objective discussion of his role in Yiddisj journalism i the last 25 years in the US.

Gravatar The English Forward's obituary for Reb Gershon states that the Algemeiner is this country's largest-circulation Yiddish weekly. Maybe that was the case some years ago ( ? ), but is that so now ??
