I did not read Boteach's article. But every issue has 2 sides. Perhaps the US is the only country to tax parochial school children .
But it is also the only nation except for Israel to grant the same school wide spread liberties in their curriculums and subject matters. England is much more strict in the amount of time secular studies are dealt with. How many countries would allow a school like Ohalai Torah to function unmolested ?
In general Charedim want to take from a govenment and do not like to return much. How many charedim have served in the US army since 1950 ? Army service is regarded as 1 way of showing thanks to the nation you live in .At present the US army is begging for Jewish chaplains, so how many charedim are ready to sign on ? By the way Switzerland forces all to serve in their wonderful little army (which Gen.Prof. Yigael Yadin used as a model for Zahal). And many non Chassidic charedim do and there are issues with the Shatnez uniforms etc.
Belgium also has stricter drft laws etc.
Lets give the US a break its a a malchus shel chesed, they do not want Charedim to serve in the army they look the other way in all sorts of practices like the Ohale Tora curriculum etc.
All they want is our tax money so they can provide govt servies which Charedim always want.
