Gravatar 70 panim laTorah. There are so many ways to read our beloved torah. Some argue it is pikuach nefesh to leave gaza, saving the lives of 8000 settlers and 8 times as many soldiers. others, such as the lubavitch camp, argue the torah says we are commanded to "not give an inch." In any event, God will do what God wants to do. It is our job to be good Jews by serving as an or lagyim, light unto the nations, and loving our neigbour as we do ourselves. I'm not sure how street demonstrations fit into all this. But we must find better ways to improve the situation than drapping oursleves in orange ribbons.

Gravatar The Rebbe purposely cites p'kuach nefesh as the chief reason to oppose any relinguishing of land, as it is the most immediately relevant factor-it is the seminal point from which all the other reasons (e.g., ethical, spiritual, historical etc.) extend. It is the only perspective which the entire world (deluded Jews included) is capable of understanding and thus presents the only viable avenue to explain, justify and convince others of the rightness of the position that it is forbidden to give even an inch. Certainly G-d will do what he wants to do, that is obvious and a given. The real question is what will we do? Rationalize that we did nothing because we did not know because the New York Times buried the story. Sorry, those days are over. All is known, all is seen and just because we turn our heads doesn't make it not so. Yes, a tree does make a sound when it falls unwitnessed in the forest; even when we have turned our backs and blocked our ears.
