Neither Reb Zalman nor Reb Shlomo were tossed out of Lubavitch.Zalman even got a dollar from the rebbe several years before his death and the rebbe did not scold Zalman at that occassion.
Zalman Shachter was an offical shliach of the Rayaatz and the 7th rebbe in New Haven, Worcester and perhaps other towns. He served as a teacher and principal in the Lubavitch day schools in those towns.
He lived a frum lifestyle and was a regular at the farbrenguns of the rebbe.People in NH fondly remember him .
Was Schachter sent to NH to lets say study at Yale , was he sent to Worcester to lets say give a Hechsher on Holy Cross University. No he was there asa marbitz Torah.
Nothing in my conversations with him or his memoir writings indicate a drug addiction in his teen age years.
By the way his father was a modern Belzer Chasid and his brother a well known Hillel rabbi in CA.
But some of us fail to realize that people change and Zalman "grew" from a chasid to a MO to a New AGE Jew. Buts its wrong to re write history with the implication that he was never interested in Kiruv, always ddicted to drugs and not a Lubavitcher in the 1940s and 50's.
Zalman is what he is today but was he always like that . the answer is NO.
Waht he presently is has little relationship to his earlier life as a Chabad rabbi.
Who is re-writing history ?
Reb Shlomo , od chazon Lemoed !

What phrase did I use regards to Shlomo ? "Od Chazon LeMoed" just means "that is for a future time" meaning I do not wish to discuss him, presently... I too read the Lilith article, and " know" about his ways
But why didn't all you MO types etc rise up when Shlomo was alive. Charedim and East European types like myself always challenged Shlomo and his "hugs and kisses style" , yet the MO community did not join in challenging him. They still dvertise their Carlebach style services.
Lets leave Shlomo alone , he is no longer amongst the living .
Reb JWB! , I am a fan of yours and you are doing excellent work, and I agree with your comments in the present. But please do not get involved in issues of history.
At one point Marshal Henri Petain of France was a hero in World war 1 at Verdun, , yet 20 years later he became a traitor and served his master Hitler in Vichy. But that does not mean he was always a traitor.
Both Shlomo and Zalman started out with good intentions, but both got caught up in the drug culture and the Sexual revolution.
I have heard from a charedi rabbi in Flatbush active in Outreach that the nisyonoth he faces on a daily basis are amny and that its only the Siyaata DEshmaya that keeps him spiritually well.
I am not defending either man's practices just the historical record.

Schneur, you lost your moral compass.

Schneur,
See that post again

In truth I brogth that court paper to the attention of Shmarya long before he posted it. At the time I asked JWB to post the dirt on her own blog in lieu of flooding my comments. I also offered a link as you can see I did that in the post. But now that I learned more about the JWB I regret linking to her unhealthy blog

I do not know JWB.
Frankly if I had known she was a woman I would have understood the comments far better
There are Jewish gurus including neo-Chasidic ones who are involved in sexual "abuse" of their office.
And I think its important to have a more transparent slate as far as rabbis and othr Jewish leaders go.
I do not wish to indict anyone without a fair hearing , but some behaved in a manner questionable to nornative standards PUBLICALY.
