Did Reb' Chayim have any family in the USA?
The Rebbe published his 3 books (paid for the typesetting and printing and made all of the arrangements) through Zalman Chanin - who is acknowledged in the books. They are phenominal works on Jewish publishing in Europe etc.
Chaim was not a "Yellow Journalism" type of guy (even though he had an axe to grind). He was much classier than that. (The Satmars used his name.) He should not be confused with other journalists with the same name (as those exist too). Maybe some other time we'll write more about his scholarship and work.

Chaim was a chossid of the Rebbe Rashab, he had mesirus nefesh for the FR, but did not really consider himself a chossid.
He would help carry the FR down to say a maamar and then go back upstairs for the maamar.
The Rebbe did not publish his books. Dont give credit where it aint belong.

I was told by a former neighbor of RACHAL that he was engaged but his bride died. He also had a brother Hirshel was passed away before RACHAL.

A number of notes. Reb Chaim's 3rd volume is basically a Hebrew translation of the previous 2 volumes in Yiddish.
As far as the rebbe publishing the books Mai Ko Mashma Lan. If he did Yasher Koach, after all Reb Chaim served his family loyally for over 30 years. But certainly a congressional medal of honor is hardly in order for this .If he did not I can understand that too.
The important matter is that Reb Chaim had little love for the last incumbent in 770 and less so for the staff of "zikne Anash" s he called the mazkirim.
Reb Chaim's yoresh was Barry Gourary and he supported the Gourary family in the book struggle with acerbic testimony.

The other Yiddish writer Reb Chaim (Herman ) Liberman of the Yiddish Forward was not a yellow journalist either , he was a Baal teshuvah and one of the great Mekonninim over the Holocaust. The gaon, Reb Yankev Kaminetsky had only the highest praise for this serious writer.
He also penned a tract in Yiddish against the Satmarer rebbe called "Der Rebbe und der Satan".
Reb Chaim did have some distant relatives in Lubavitch who were sort of Chabad chassidim.I met several in Eshel Avrohom.

To say Reb Chaim was not a chasid is absurd and a distortion. See the articles by Rivkind in HADOAR and Munshine in Alei SEFER about Reb Chaim and the praise as a chasid the Rayaatz gave to him. When my great grand uncle in Moscow Reb Itche Michael Alperowitz needed a house melamed the Rayaatz said that Reb Chaim was a ADAM in the muvan hachside.(Brught down in Alei SEFER)
