Unfortunately the school was under the directorship of gruzman who never had the capabilities and spent most of his time, sitting in the mikveh of kfar-chabad, cursing the other shluchim who were more succesfull than himself.

I think he was under or avner, until he needed lots ofmoney to pay off loan sharks, so he "threatened" ohr avner that he would join the misnagdim. which he did. but than I guess cohen and his coherts werent able to bail him out.

When I read "One of the few standing Jewish communal properties in the FSU still independent from Ohr Avner and the mighty diamond dollars."

I cannot help but laugh (and cry)

Gravatar I can only say that I have been asked not flame the war. And I can't say what I heard about this. The fact is that the school is closed and the Jewish kids are no longer in a Jewish school. And whoever is in charge over there allowed this to happen.

Gravatar The people that are trying to raise the money to reopen the school are indeed independent of Ohr Avner (and are desperately trying to stay that way). This matter has nothing to do with Rabbi Gruzman any more either…

The important thing - these people are doing what they are doing for all the right reasons. They need & deserve every kind of support. I hope they succeed.

Gravatar are we in the business of educating Jewish children, or is screwing Or Avner the objective, at any price?

Gravatar and anyway the old school was supported by ohr avner too

Gravatar berl, is gruzman still involved in the school?

Gravatar i don't think Gruzman is actively involed anymore. I was told that he is mostly in Israel now and the community is ready for a new Rov.

Gravatar how much money are they trying to put together now?

Gravatar to the best of my knowledge:
1. Gruzman is out and is back in Israel.
2. OA (Orh Avner) would be welcomed by the MV (Minsk volunteers) if OA would not demand that the almost completed community building be signed over to OA and if OA would be mindful of the community feelings when appointing a new Rabbi. (The MV are worried about getting a person that is clueless about their needs.)
These do not seem to be unreasonable requests to me.

Gravatar lets stop caring about the politics of it. politics stinks. always has always will.
the question is are jewish kids gonna have a chance at not marrying a goy'te or not.
will they have a chance at ever leading jewish lives or not.

if someone can tell us how much cash they need to make this happen right now, provide a link etc., fine. politics we'll take care of later.

Gravatar sto pratzent, could not have said it better myself.

Gravatar Does anyone have ideas how to get the MO community interested in Minsk , i getting a rav and running a school ?Its sad that the only people invovled are Lubavitch. Where are the other groups ?

Gravatar Hi great blog.

You have made a mistake.

The Minsk your picture refers to is actually Minsk-Mazowiecki which is in Poland about 25 miles from Warsaw.

Have a look here http://www.zchor.org/minsk.htm

There is a holecaust book by Leyb Rochman called The Pit & The Trap that describes what happened in the marketplace on the day Jews were removed from Minsk-Mazowiecki (your picture). That book is the most moving holecaust book I have read and the prose is absolutely brilliant.
