Shneur Zalman at aged eleven was an imitator par excellence. He could sound like anyone. He was out of control even then. No once could discipline him. And one could see he was brilliant but very hostile and angry. By aged 13 he was sleeping on the streets and in 770. He eventually became a Breslov and accprding to reports he knows Arabic fluently and other languages too. This is an example of a mental health issue that was never addressed in childhood. His parents are from the old country and old time Russian and Chassidim are in the dar ages when it comes to mental health. Obviously, they pay the consequences for this ignorance.

on a seperate note, those constantly accusing lubavitch of revisionaism, should check out the castrated version of motel lifshitz's autobiagrapohy translated into english. the author's name escapes me, but he is on the radio in NY every night during the nachum siegal program. for all of the talk of the extent of chabad's influence in the russian bal tshuvah movement, there was a considerable impact. The author makes no mention of that or of mottel's obvious and strong chabad loyalty.

the author is r. dovid goldwasser. it seems he knows r' mottel for a long time.
i understand that r' mottel is quite upset about what he did.
THe family put out r'motel's original dairy in yiddish now being sold in CH. I understand R' Goldwasser is a known lecturer in the yeshivishe velt. What gives? this is not about love/hate chabad. He is entitled to both, but this is about a basic sense of metchliechkeit expected of all.

Hey, you, whoever you are, shame on you for attacking R'Dovid Goldwasser, he is one of the nicest,non judgemental rabbis around.The book he wrote is wonderful, why do some people always have to find fault??
KBY, the book may be wonderful, but the allegation is that it is not his. i saw the letter signed by r. motl lifshitz where he alleges that goldwasser altered the opriginal text submitted to him to be translated. he then printed it without r.motl's consent. IF the allegation is true this goldwasser is a Piece of S.
i know mottle and he's pretty upset about the whole thing. he regrets letting goldwasser do it.

Recently a book was published with the title “Comrade: a gripping story of se1f~sacnfice and kiddush hashem” by Rabbi Dovid Goldwasser.
After an attempt to stop the sale of the book, and after receiving multiple inquiries about my role in this book, I am forced to tell the truth to the public
This book was not the brainchild and compilation of the author, as he would like to portray (see introduction and pages 18, 19), rather it was already written up and complied by myself with the help of others by the time the author set his eyes on it, and was compiled in response to the request of the Lubavitcher Rebbe that Chassidim record their history and stories of self-sacrifice,
What was most shocking to me though, was that the manuscript was given to the author in order to translate into English and despite countless requests to see the manuscript before publication he avoided showing it to any of my family members. Instead, he rushed to print my work heavily censuring out, (to my utter dismay) any reference of Lubavitch, their Leaders, or the Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim. Also, he simply invented an extensive amount of the story.
When the extent of his forgery was brought to my attention, that entire sentences were translated word for word only to omit the name “Schneerson” or words like “Farbrengen”, I inquired with my relatives and was told that the author had reportedly said ‘If the Chabad family saw the manuscript, then it would have been ruined and it would not have been able to be published”.
Therefore, in order to stand clean, I want to publicly declare, that the product is not what I wrote (one can obtain my Yiddish original “Zichronos Fun Gulag” in stores) I did not have any part in the falsifications and historical revisionism, I do not take part in the attempt to erase the history of my dear Rebbes who stood by me in my dark days in Soviet Russia and it’s Gulags, I therefore object to all of this nonsense done in my name.

A public apology would be in order for starters, maybe Reb Mottel can get the Beis Din to instruct R' Dovid Goldwasser to publish an un-abridged version.
a bais din was consulted, they got scared when they heard that goldwasser send lawyers letters with a threat to sue for defamation!
the botei dinim are either scared or have not power.
courts cost more money then the whole thing in worth. does reb mottel have the money?
goldwasser got away with what he thought he can get away with...
