Gravatar I clearly remember being told that the Rebbi meLubavitch "holds the goyish music is temai the moach (pollutes one's brains)". If we are talking about modern genres (rap, hip hop etc) it seems an accurate assessment. Lots of folk music is free of the offensive lyrics of rap but does seem to operate on and ressssonnate into the identity sector of the brain.

Gravatar Speaking of pollution... I recently discovered I have almost 20 versions of "Tenderly" in my music library. Ben Webster's version is by far the most tender.

Gravatar Empire sells meat!? I thought they were only into poultry...

Seriously, though, it seems that Aaron's has successfully filled the supermarket void left behind by the withdrawal of the Zalman's brand due to some internicine business strife between kashrus agencies nearly 2 years ago. Meanwhile Alle (Mealmart) and Globex (International Glatt), the other big players in glatt kosher, are MIA in this aspect of the business.

Gravatar In East Europe the rav or the dayan was in constant control of the shechitah of his locality.
Here in the US , Rubashkin kills probably 50% of the Glatt product and no Rav of any stature lives in Postville to supervise the plant 24-7 and be available on the spot for shayles.
Why could not one of the CH dayanin live in Postville or is supervising cholov Israel of greater improtance !

Gravatar Rubashkin's space in the local supermarket's kosher case keeps growing, and Empire's keeps shrinking. Perhaps the $1/lb price difference might have something to do with it? Not for me, of course - I don't buy "kosher" meat or poultry from places that torture the animals, but that's just a personal flaw, I guess.

Gravatar BTW, Tzemach,

I assume you are referring to your local Star Market/Shaw's around Boston. Those markets are now owned by Albertson's who, as I understand it through completely unsubstantiated rumor, is now Agriprocessor's single largest customer. Hence, they have some good pricing power for their massive, massive purchases. That, in turn, gets translated into that lower consumer price ($2.10/lb. for a quartered broiler chicken that also tastes alot like butter when cooked!).
