Gravatar The way I heard this story is that the 770 building used to be a doctor's clinic where abortions were rumored to have been performed.
If the adjacent building was a hospital that was shutdown because of legal problems there should be some kind of paper trail.

Gravatar I assume this a historic detail but every window in 770 is stained glass window that prevents you from looking inside the building. Was that by design?

Gravatar the building is reletivley new, built in the late 1930's. the occupant and original owner was a was a Jewish doctor who lived upstairs. If you go to the third floor where the library is, you will notice alot original children motif's in the bathroom tiles and windows. I've seen the original plans of the floor layouts.
i've always been curios that the budda has remained relitevly unnoticed all these years. I'm sure some of the chassidim from the yuds, like Gordon or Sharfshteyn might now something. My theory is, that ist was laways seen for what it is, an esthetic touch to be left alone. The polarizing extremism so common today was not present.

Gravatar Just to clearafy, the whole biulding was built for, and occupied by, one family. possibly as a result of some medical shenanigan i.e. abortions, he had to sell.

Gravatar The polarizing extremism so common today was not present.

Didn't the Rebbe declare a war on teddy bears and the rest of the unkosher creatures and he had two geishas and a Buddha greeting himself and the visitors on the way to gan eden tachton (or elyon, I forgot already)? What did they call that lobby? Also is it true that all the windows were opaque with the stained glass to prevent people seeing from the outside.

By the way all the stained glass joints appear to be lead. Unthinkable in today’s house.

Gravatar Do they replicate the Buddahs in 770s they build aroud the world?

Gravatar Tzemach,
Before going balistic, why don't you actually READ what the Rebbe said about teddy bears. I knows this is a sure fire why to kill a great conversation that has ignorance as a propelant. The 'war' was to insure a spiritually' sterile' zone around newborns and young children. There were no 'public burnings' of teddy bears or hanging of mickey mouse in effigy.with that said, I'm assuming that if the FR did not deem it fit to remove the glass, the Rebbe would not either. Oh, and FYI, the clinic was only on the first floor; the second and third were the Docs' private residence.

Gravatar i don't go ballistic, I don't care it is all fake. so where did they perform the abortions in the gan eden elyon?

Gravatar I am not seeing the Buddah, as many others are, but since it is apparantely there (I will have to really look next time I pass through CH) I have to ask why the window was never removed and replaced with something more appropriate.

Gravatar Tzemach, you have an amazing eye for detail!I've Seen 770 countless times and never noticed.
While the actual Shul/zal in the basement is one the ugliest, 770 especially since it's outside waS cleaned it a beutiful house

Gravatar YY, I got a tip about this buddah. I did not pay attention to it myself.

Gravatar If the 'abortions' were performed, it was in the back room where the operating room was. It is currently the library and was R' Shmuel levtitn Apt. Next time you are in CH, check out the stior book motif's in the stained glass windows of the aguch library.

Gravatar what is stior?

Gravatar The operating room was in the Cheder Shaynee (when the bookshelves are removed you can still see the blue tiles). In the Rebbes room there are also animal carvings (owl etc.) and are replicated. The rebbe was against animals being used to teach certain lessons n(i.e. Mendel the mouse to teach good midos. In trhe sicha the Rebbe says our Chachomim teach us lessons from animals plus lions on aron kodesh etc.
So the geisha symbol must mean hachnosas orchim (nothing inappropriate intended). enough for now!

Gravatar sorry, 'storybook' motif

Gravatar TA.
Your flipant comment about the abortions taking place in Gan Eden HaElyon are totally innapropriate and unecessary. You, who try to sell yourself as someone without any ideoligical bias, are posting a statement that is 'permeated' (a favorite word used frequently by our leaders who in most probability don't know how to spell it) with bias, sarcasm and most of all - Chutzpah and disrespect.
I am removing you from my favourites list.
Shame on you.
