I will not call you an apologist but rather someone who has a little emunas tzadikim. as I once heard from a reliable source that in the early 1990's there was a small group that requested from harav Avigder Miller zt"l to sign something that was against chabad (referring to the yechi issue) and he refused, saying "from the lubavitcher rebbe there can not come out a ‘daver bilti rotzui’.
I don’t mean to say that everything that is claimed to be presented in the name of the rebbe is holy (or NOT a ‘daver bilti rotzui’) but rather that not everything that is SAID as being done in the rebbes name, is actually so. (Although to me the above story is a great chidush, still note that there is a tremendous difference between then and now –the post gimmel tamuze era-)

Just for the sake of the truth, i would like to comment the aforementioned did NOT sepak favorably about L etc. during the 90's.

I don't want to engage this (very sensitive discussion), but i think that the message can understood very simply:
The Rebbe (did not intend to say that there was no physical histalkus and that the FR was physically alvie, as Mashpia points out that the REbbe went to the OHel 42 years of the nessius, but he rather intended very simply):
In the context and according to the REbbe's understanding the Seforim beloned to the Chassidus and that is what the REbbe meant that the FR did not "die" in that sense for the movement goes on with the koach of the FR himself (in the eyes of the Rebbe) and the Rebbeim that preceded him; therefore this was not subject to plain yerusha as a "private" person since the movement (which carries the koach of the Rebbeim) is still "alive".

He danced with the Rashag at night and in the morning. (and by the aliyoh they would call up the Fr and the Rebbe).
