Gravatar I am not that old, and you don't look like your'e in your 70's either. when did this propaganda begin, how did it begin, and who had started it. the reason i'm asking is simple, i have big doubts that this whole propaganda was started due to soviet or nazi influence. i doubt the fact that this problem had started way back then, or that way back then this was a problem. vd"l.

Gravatar is this the only photo you have of the rebbe?

Gravatar I met a Shaliyach today in a store. He complained bitterly to me that I put up a photo of the Rebbe without a yarmulke. The scorecard didn't bother him but the photo did?

Gravatar Call it what it is, alredy: A CULT.

Gravatar Mashpia--your attitude is exemplary. I have never understood why people put so much emphasis on the outward appearance, sometimes at the expense of the true chassidus. It is almost as if they believe people are too "weak" or "immature" to deal with historical truth, which doesn't say much.

Gravatar "because i don't really care if someone wears a yarmulke or not".
aren't you the "mashpia"??

Gravatar Mashpia, does Krinsky or others pay you to comment here?

Gravatar Mashpia,
I do however strongly agree with the next two reasons (number 2 & 3) that you’ve mentioned.
My reasoning, -against the photo- being open to the public, is that not everybody realizes or knows this i.e. not everybody realizes (or some may naively not believe) that the rebbe was someone who was moser nefesh for a hider mitzvah! As the famous story of when the rebbe traveled to Nazi occupied France to get a "nicer" esrog.

Gravatar Italy not France and it is a story...

Gravatar also take a look at this comment and the thread:

Gravatar no, i am not paid, and i don't know (and/or care) if my views necessarily reflect those of krinsky and "others" - although, as i said before, i don't think he is such a bad guy. if someone could arrange some payment, then i would be grateful. but until then, i am doing this for my personal fun and pleasure.

OT. i don't see what difference the yarmulke makes. it's one still, not a biography.

Gravatar Tzemach; the cult of strong ruler in Germany and Russia is older than Hitler or Stalin. I don't think that FR's son-in-law could extrapolated in the 1930s how the depression and starvation would cross-pollinate with totalitarianism. Abraham Maslow had not published at this period. Orwll didn't publish Animal Farm ubtil 1945. I think that your analysis would be more profitably focused on late 1940s and 1950s and the extent of repairs (dare I say, "tikkun"?) required to bring Klal Yisrael out of a terror induced coma(s).
BTW I would LOL at the people who complain about the Rebbe's kippa photos. Why do they complain if they assume it to be missing? If it was missing , why can then deal with it? If not, why is the angle of camera so important to these triviologists?

Gravatar all the contras against publishing the photo above are nonsense. the only valid reason against it would be disrespect to the Rebbe. a passport picture or a university id picture without a yarmulke are no issues, of course. but to display these images in public is an act unworthy of chosid chabad. which does not apply to Tzemach, of course, so it is not an issue.

Gravatar i thought tzemach is lubavitch!
or at least not none-lubavitch. as he responded himself regarding his ambivalence...
"Dear Tomim Cyberspacer, I am puzzled about this myself."

Gravatar he may be 100% lubavitch, but i said CHOSID chabad, and chosid he is not.

Gravatar i once saw a headline in Kfar Chabad אינני חסיד חבד, אני חסיד של הרבי
btw, this guy didn't have a beard.

Gravatar TA, you say "also take a look at this comment" http://www.haloscan.com/comments...67279300/ #40830

the story is void of any content, unless we know how the Rebbe had used the time freed from learning the mesichta beiyun. he went to sleep, he took out an article by heisenberg, was immersed in pri eyts haim?

Gravatar Como, "but he's still a yid we love'im!" who is we?

Gravatar TA, i like this "this is a great blog and kudos to TA... but.... suspicious, critical, jealous, small-minded, and always willing to rain on someone's parade."

Один там только и есть порядочный человек: прокурор; да и тот, если сказать правду, свинья.

Gravatar I think the whole personality - cult has several origins:
a,many of the leading chassidim experienced Stalin and his propaganda machinery firsthand. So if it worked there why not with Chabad?
b,Don't forget that Lubavitch is based in the world"s leading advertisement metropolis.Flash for cash.

Gravatar Commenting on the picture, it wasn't unusual for chassidim or frum Jews to pose without a yarmulka, as that was the law regarding passport pics ect. But what point is being made in repeateldly posting this one picture?
Tzemach, you remnind of the many russian yidden I meet in my shlichus. I always need to be wary least I make a 'dreaded' association to anything they experienced in the last 100 years. Tt makes dialouge very challenging and often unproductive.
Truly open minds can get beyond this.

Gravatar The aunt of the Rebbe and Rebbitzen, Mrs. Tzila Schneersohn passed away last night in Tel Aviv.

She was the wife of R. Benzion Schneersohn who was the brother of Rebbitzen Nechama Dinah, son of R. Avrohom Schneersohn of Kishivev and grandson of ADMUR Yisroel Noach of Nezhin.

Reb Benzion came to Eretz Yisrael after WWII ans settled in Tel Aviv. He visited the US twice (I believe)and enjoyed a warm relationship with his nephew and niece the Rebbe and Rebbitzen. He passed away in 1976.
