There a bizare story behind why they are building this 770 in Haditch.

The Gvir told Rabbi Kaminezky that the Alter Rebbe came to him in a dream and told him to do so.

Nu Nu.

Gravatar MIB, are there known descendants of MM Vitebsker?

Gravatar So much money.....so few needy causes. :(

Gravatar I regret never having visited this place before the morons "improved" it. I believe Nezhin was redone as well, at least inside. So sad...

Ayzel, this has nothing to do with how someone chooses to spend their money. You can spend your money on better causes. This is about an astonishing level of bad taste, and not only in terms of aesthetics.

Gravatar No Berl I think you are wrong. These gevirim don't give in a vacuum. It's all about perception and community standards. If they want to waste money, we need should at least try and educate them.

Gravatar Ayzel, money is besides the point here. If they had undertaken a historically accurate restoration of the site (assuming it was falling into a state of disrepair) that would cost more money than the crude replica of 770, would you still complain about the money use?

Gravatar berl, is there a function to this building in Hadtich? I think der azel was referring building of 770s stam, i.e. like in Kfar Habad, etc.

Gravatar Tzemach,

Off hand I do not know the names of R. Mendel's descendents, but I have heard that they are around in both Israel and the states. I can look it up.

R. Mendel's family did not establish e "Shosheles" or Chassidic dynasty.

R. Mendel had a son about whom I have read some stories, his name was Moshe he passed away and is buried in Tverya. If I recall there was a son in law of R. Mendel buried in Tverya as well.

Gravatar Reb Mendel's son Reb Moshe was married to the daughter of an important Sefardic rav from Tivera, and he was prised highly by many Talmidei HaMaggid, especially the Alter rebbe. He had one child that was engaged to R' Nachman of Breslov's grandaughter (daughter?), but he passed away before marriage. I do think he had another son named Shmuel, and I don't know what became of him.
R' Moshe passed away Rosh Chodesh Nissan 1799 - ten years after his father.

Gravatar BTW, Reb Mendel was not suceeded by his son; it was R' Avrohom of Kalisk who became Rebbe after Reb Mendele's passing.

Gravatar True, R. Mendel's family did not establish a "Shosheles" or Chassidic dynasty.

Gravatar I heard that they are building a replica of 770 by the Kosel.

Gravatar What is the purpose of that 770?
Haditch seemed rather nice to me . . . not anywhere nearly as tacky as Mezhibuzh

Gravatar "I heard that they are building a replica of 770 by the Kosel.

Cunin has already said that he builds all of his buildings to look like 770 so that when Moshiach comes, the Beis Hamikdash will have a more cohesive look . . .

Gravatar I realize this is somewhat tangential, but I seem to recall the Rebbe saying (in the 80s?) that a palace should be built for moshiach, or something like that, and if I'm not mistaken, there were even plans drawn up and funds allocated, but I don't know what happened to it. Does anyone else remember such a thing??

Gravatar Gee, sorry for that comma happy "sentence."

Gravatar Yes I recall the story. Rivkin from Kfar Chabad was invloved in it.
