Ashreinu is a vort from the Friediker Rebbe repeated by the Rebbe.

(If you don't feel any 'ashreinu,' I don't think you are in a position to criticize ANY other Lubavitcher.)

Whatdayaknow? I just stumbled upon ashereinu ma teiv chelkeinu in davenen. It might actually be “a vort” fun aneshei keneses hagedeiloh.
Anyhooo, it seems to be an authentically Jewish sentiment. And it applies to all aspects of one's Jewishness - down to the little tiny minhag noshim. And it most certainly applies to one's Path in yiddishkeit. And what am I missing here?

[I was going to make fun of the tombstone-kisser, but I am afraid that tomorrow I will find a favorfene Iben Ezra ;) praising tombstone-kissing. So I thought better of it... ]

smart move, Berl :+:

"besser unzere Gehenom fun zeire Gan Eden" (our [lubavitch's] hell is better than their [Chagas'] heaven)
The Rebbe - 5710's - 1950's AKA the yuds.

This doesn't mean what it implies. there is a whole story and sicha which precedes this, explaining exactly how and why our "Gehenim" is better than their "Gan Eidin" it is precisely because of the advantage of the Chabad Chassidus - not the luck of being born into a Chabad familiy, which provides room for this motivational sentence to actually spark inspiration. There is nothing wrong with a little bit of pride here and there. Every so often, it is good to hear blatant "Chagas" statements. But these remarks must be a tofel sh'betofel sh'betofel to the Ikkar - Chaba"d - certainly not the other way around

I'd like a source for that Sicha.
I find it hard to believe that the Rebbe said such a thing.
Unless you are misquoting the Rebbe kederech hameshichistim hamenuvalim.

Source of the sicha,

I do not have it in front of me, but the Rebbe was quoting (approvingly) someone else in that statement. It was reffering to the gehenem that the chosid recieves for not understanding the maamar (which is the basis of chabad) vs the gan eden the the chagas chosid receives for eating the shi'ra'yim.

Gravatar One should be careful about defaming or disparaging the conduct of other yidden who are sincerely trying to live according to ideals as best they understand them. No less than the Mezritcher Maggid came to regret questioning the Ba'al Shem Tov's the seemingly excessive attention he paid to p'shutei ha'om.

One must admit, however, to one of the points you are trying to make, (if I correctly understand your meaning), namely the failure to distinguish between being a stom Lubavitcher chassid (ah koll sh'b'kollim?) and a ChaBaD chassid. The Rebbe RaShaB, nishmasoh eiden, stated that he trembled over the misuse and all too frequently misappropriated sobriquet of ChaBad chassid.

That said, the eztem fact of yiridus hadoros, neccessitates a modification of our standards and expectations without compromising. After all there is emess and emess la'mitei. As one of my moshpi'im suggested and I believe it is based on something from the Rebbe, although the true aveidah of iskoffia is no longer within our reach, holding oneself to eating a healthy diet is and does, in fact, constitute iskoffia in our generation. So too it follows with other forms of aveidah.

History and chronology are annoyingly real and unavoidable bugaboos. Jews were m'shichistim before Yoshke was a gleam in Yosef's eyes. Declaring oneself "not a m'shichist" is similar to those who chose and assigned the appelations of misnaggid and chossid. History has already cast its verdict.

Gravatar Is it halachically permitted to kiss a matzaiva as demonstrated by the girl in the photo?
