He was a great Hazzan, if posessed of that nasal voice sometimes favored by Sepharadim. Their new guy also has a similar voice. I used to daven sometimes at Spanish-Portuguese, as it was a block from my grandparents' and not far from my parents'.

My grandparents & I used to meet the Cardozos walking on Central Park West on Shabbat afternoons.

My great aunt and tblcht"a (Mrs.) Irma Cardozo were close friends, many years ago (my aunt passed away almost 30 years ago). When my mother went for a shiva call, she was greeted with "Look! It's Martha's niece!" - not that anyone else in the room remembered Aunt Martha.
