I found Ruven Deutsch to be very normative man a fine person .
His wife is a very intellegent women too.
I guess we can debate about the son.
Piekarski has nothing to do with Cong. Liozna at the time of this writing.

I remember Ruven from Gan Yisroel in 1959-60. He was one of the more popular counsleors. A real fun guy

Ruvein was (is) a good man. He had a shul on Crown Street and let people use the mikveh in his home for years. He was 2nd grade when I was there and a fair teacher. The Liozneh has some issues - I remember him growing up. Just because he does good (i.e. distributing food before shabbos a sort of tomchei shabbos, etc.) doesn't make he a de facto tzadik. (Ever hear of Hamas's charities and hospitals?) How he calls himself a Rebbe is beyond my grasp, but that's his issue. For some reason, he felt to bring the Chassidim the rebbe in a human light, with faults and all. There was no reason forhim to be the "Nachshon" in that. Our enemies were happy to do so.
His knowlege and historical research is vast with regard to the history of the rebbe - mostly the secular aspects, not the spiritual.
His learning is nothing to write home about not now, not as a kid.

Who says he is a zaddik ?
but for a movement (Lubavitch) that defends all sorts of secular Jews with various excuses (intermarriage -its just one of 613 mitzvoth, or he supported Shliach Y when bankrupcy proceedings started, or his wife started going to Mikven or he wrote to the rebbe in 1972 and I have heard all of these plus more, or other such answers which do not change the real mahus of our secular person. So its strange to "avekmachen mit hant: Deutsch's good work.
Personally I will respect a secular Jew for who he is,in Lita we said a Yid iz erlich, der galach iz frum ... I do not need excuses to kasher anyone. but I also will not make a Jew with a Christian mistress as president of a Lubavitcher yeshiva in ...
Who says he is the Brisker rav in lernen, and who says he is a mumche in Dach. All I wrote is that he does good chessed work and educational work.
I also do not understand the shaychus of a private Yid a Lubavitcher yet Reb Ruven D. to all this nonsense. Attack his son if you need to but Ruven, vos hot er dir geton ???

Schneur, I amazed at your talent to put self evident truths under a new light. You are saying things that everyone knows and understands but you frame it sow colorfully that it all comes alive.

Liozner rebbe and how he calls himself that . Take a long walk in DER YID and KOL HAOLAM KULO and we find hundreds of Admorim , including Sephardic ones. There are rebbes who attended YU, rebbes whose parents were clean shaven, rebbes from Hungarain extraction calling themselves after White Russian towns, rebbes with American college education sat least 12 Spinker rebbes, we even have Bratzlaver rebbes.
Very soon almost every Jew will be a rebbe. As Gov. Huey Long said Every man aking ! Today every Jew a rebbe !
There are more rebbes today than in 1939.
Rav Nachman once wrote the time will come when finding a pashuter Yid will be as difficult as finding a zaddik today (19th cen). So I would get worried when these guys start calling themselves poshuter Yidden and dress like normal people. And I think you know what I mean ...

DAVZH: "Just because he does good... doesn't make he a de facto tzadik". If you take a non-ideological definition of tzaddik, "doing good" is the main requirement.

Schneur: A pragmatic view would be to evaluate the benefit of the lightweight "Admor(s)" as opposed the absence to a heavy-weight Rebbe.

I wish, that being a rebbe(leh) would be peoples' only yetzer horah. If wearing a shtreimel and shikh & socken does it for them and they do no harm, why not?

Well, they say that if all the rebbelehs traveled in a bus, all of their chassidim would follow in a minivan right behind...
