"I also was at a farbregen last night and I feel that my ability to connect to mortals is close to zero"
And this is coming from an immortal?

Sounds strangely similar to something mentioned here that happened in Bnei Brak.

Re: connecting to mortals...
Tzemach, I think you underestimate yourself. You don't have any trouble relating to Stanislaw Lem and Nafotly Yakobson.
I think such frustration belongs in the "Likutei Claptrap file" along with all the other eidele hasogeis that have been ruined for us by the intellectually sheltered and obtuse minds who have a nifty talent for making even the most visceral human emotions seem abstruse. It's like a hungry person listening to a guy who's never even seen a hamburger describe to him a hamburger. Dang!

connecting to mortals... Farbregrens in yeshivah and among peers used to be important to me. But by the time I had reached my 30s, I felt farbregrens were no longer helpful. When lip service displaces sincerity, why bother?

pmh, are you the only sincere one? Or just more sincere than everyone else? surely not everyone at all frabrengens are insincere. Are you so much better than the others? Why don't you change your attitude and have some more humility and go to frabrengens to contribute instead of just being a taker?

Wannabe: Don't you agree that answering a rhetorical question with a question misses the point? Since I don't mind repeating myself: when lip service displaces sincerity, why bother? How can a non-attendee be a taker? Why don't I change my attitude? May be my previous farbrengen experience equipped well to resist manipulation and guilt trips.

There were two seperate stories last week.
#1- A Mohel was about to preform a bris is a Lakewood Shul, when he said the baby does not look good. Before I do the bris please have a doctor check him out. They did, and the doctor rushed the baby into emergency open heart surgery. The baby is B"H recovering fine.
#2- Some idiotic bored people decided to make up B.S. stories about Reb Chaim Kanievsky, and about this Bris story. The bris story I confirmed with a family member of mine who was at the bris and is good friends with the family. The Reb Chaim Kanievsky story I confirmed by calling his personal driver (whom I happen to be a friend of) and he told me that it's completly bogus. Noone ever came to him... no new suit (heck, he doesn't even wear a suit!!!)...no deams...no babies etc. It's all SHEKER!!
Anyways, take care, and good luck!
PS, I just heard that Elvis was seen running nude on Kingston Ave before. He was looking for that dude from Crown Heights with all those buttons (Charlie?). Elvis claims that this guy is the new Messiah!

so the story isnt true. but what is true is that a bunch of misnagdim believed it.
misnagdim of old didnt give much credence to such ideas. as amatter of fact litvikes pretty much loathed that whole concept. which is why - for instance - they laughed at the rebbe chosid idea.
well well, maybe if the chassidim of today would be real chassidim, then the misnagdim would be real misnagdim

m.n. thanks so much for the sincere lecture about bittul. your problem is that you think your aggression will intimidate people to listen to you. Too bad you're getting short of naive listeners who will put up with your self-congratulating tedium.
