Gravatar Did he leave a will? I guess not, let the fighting begin! I mean continue…

Gravatar It would be interesting to see if the Shpitz sites - like COL and Shturem - would report this... We shall wait and see; but as of now, nothing

Gravatar I once went to a "yechidus" with him (20 years ago?) with a friend an American BT. The Satmarer was smiling as he did not know what planet two of us came from and why we went to see him.

Gravatar ברוך דיו האמת. I hope his sons don't make a bigger chillul hashem than already. Maybe they should split the Chassidus into Satmar and Sigheter.

Gravatar Boruch Dayan Emes, guys lets show some respect for a Jewish leader.

Gravatar Did you know that the Satmar Rebbe's family was connected to eretz Yisroel? The name "Teitelbaum" means "date palm tree". Such trees didn't exist in the areas where the family lived and took on their name. It may have been chosen as a name because of it's relation to Eretz Yisroel...

Gravatar "Wikipedia is fast: "was the Rebbe"."

Actually, he and his requsets have been referred to in the past "ovar ubotul m'haolam" tense for a while now. ;)

Gravatar Ironically he passed away on Yom Hashoah, when Satmarers refuse to stand still during the sounding of the sirenes. Now their world has come to a standstill... and they will have to remember this day as a sad day fom now on.Zechisoi yugein uleini

Gravatar Radomsker, where should they report it? Under Masel Tov?

Gravatar Shmais has not reported it. All party all the time! How boring.

Gravatar Actually, shmais reported it right away. At this point the item is toward the bottom of their page. How exciting!

Gravatar COL/Shturem still didn't report it. Interesting what passes through the israeli mind.

Gravatar Brian Lerer, on WNYC.org, just aired a segment on Satmar. Ironically, one of the two 'experts' called was Israel Singer, formally of the WJC. By the way, IS himself wears with a gartel and has a chassidshe havoro when he davens.

Gravatar radomsker
if it dosent lick chabads a** why they report it?

Gravatar TA did the rebbe say anything to you?

Gravatar boruch dayan emes
does anyone know were to be mnachem avol the brothers? are sitting together or separate?
Wikipedia is edited by random people it's not Wikipedia it self that's fast, its whoever edit it that's fast mostproperly some satmar chosid or the other.

Gravatar I just want to inform all those commenting about the lack of coverage on COL/Shturem etc. Those sites are frequented by people who come to read news in Chabad. The Editors put articles that have a connection to Chabad (in their opinion), and the passing of the Satmar Rebbe, while an important occurence that should not be ignored, does not have a connection to Chabad. However, you can expect to see articles in Kfar Chabad Magazine about some sort of connection he might have had with the Rebbe.

Gravatar Ok, I get it now. A meeting between a chief Rabbi of Kyrgyzstan with a head “veteran seniors for Lenin” club in a village of Islamabad is breaking news, passing of Satmarer Rebbe is not.

Gravatar The news reports say there was a will that named Zalman Leib (willamsburg - younger brother) the new Rebbe. However Aaron's (KJ - older brother) people say that the will's choice is not binding and that the Board will pick the new Rebbe

Gravatar regular reader
col gave plenty of coverage to r. moshe halberstams funeral. very little relation to chabad, my friend. as a matter of fact it looked eerily similar to the satmerers funeral.
they are a propaganda, pravda like site serving the interests of yaisef aronov.

Gravatar check out crownheights.info which does have coverage

Gravatar Does anyone know if Sonya Schneerson ever married and if so, were there children? Thank you.

Gravatar Chaiale, see some of the links here:
http://del.icio.us/mentalblog.co....com/ Horenstein

Gravatar Thank you for your prompt reply. I made an error, which is why I am writing again. I meant to ask about Sonya Horenstein, not Schneerson. I was obviously getting tired. I truly appreciate your assistance!

Gravatar Sonia was married to mendel and had no seed. The rayaatz had only 1 grandson Reb Sholom Ber Gourary. The Horenstein's were raising a nephew of Mendel's as is indicated in the leters of teh rayaatz.

Gravatar Schneur, can you help here:

Gravatar Horenstein and Orenstein was a common Jewish family name in Galicia and the Ukraine. Our Horensteins were Boyaner chassidim who were in the sugar trade and were reckoned among the richest Jews in Russia along with the Gourary's .
They married into the Rizhin royal family and into the Schneersohn's twice. they had a shul in Jslm and a complete neighborhood called bate Horenstein.
The late Reb Sander Bistrizky a chashuver Boyener chasid in NYC told me that there were no Horenstein's remaining in the Boyan community.
Reb Israel Friedman the son of the previous Boyaner rebbe told me that the last "great" chassidic wedding in Russia in the 1970's involved a Horenstein marrying into a frum family in Muncatch. That family was then in Israel.
I do have a photo of the mechutan of the Maharash the father of rabbi Moshe hacohen.
Parts of the Maharash family is still alive in Israel.

Gravatar parts of maharash family?

Gravatar I want to thank both Tzmach Atlas and Schneur for your assistance regarding the Horenstein family history. I want to share with you the reason my interest was piqued by a photo on your site of Menachem Mendel Horenstein, his wife, Shayna and his sister, Sonya.

I just tried to copy the photos to your blog and nothing happened. What am I not doing?? Thank you.

Chaiale

Gravatar Schneur,

I am confused with your comment that Sonia was married to Mendel and they had one son. I thought Menachem Mendel Horenstein was married to Shayna Schneerson and my question was about his sister, Sonia Horenstein, shown in the photo of the three together. To whom was Sonia Horenstein married, if she was ever married? Thank you.

Chaiale

Gravatar Schneur,

I am interested in speaking with you about Chabad Bobroisk and Kapust, and would like to ask you a few questions (via e-mail or phone, whatever is most convenient for you). Please e-mail me at jakomisar ~at~ hotmail.com so I can be in touch.

I appreciate it very much.
