Gravatar I disagree. I think that it is EVERY woman's right to have an abortion if she chooses. In fact, I don't even see why she should be encouraged to go full term and deliver the child if she doesn't want to. Why? So that she can then go through the added emotional heartbreak of producing an unwanted child and selling it? To protect whose morals? Yours?

Gravatar Respect for life is a sign of civilized society. Invoking imaginary "rights" to defend destroying life is the sign of depravity.

Gravatar Is rape a sign of civilized society as well? Must an abused woman be forced to bear the fruits of her abuse, just because she's "civilized"? That child is a part of her body and if she wants to have it excised, she has every right to do so. There's nothing miaginary about that.

Gravatar aniboker,
easy now. theyre not asking for legislation. theyre just trying to help people.
obviously, if theres any issue thats not black on white it would be this one. but why criticize people who are trying to help?

as far as your premise that a child is considered a limb of the mother; as far as jewish law goes, this is false. there is room however, for abortion in jewish law.

a cold drink and some education would be highly recommended.

Gravatar This wonderful organization clearly documents that there are mothers in Israel who decide to abort purely due to their financial circumstances. This organization alleiviates that concern by covering major portions of early childhood expenses for mothers desparately in need.

Who could argue there's anything wrong with that?

Gravatar You are all quite right, and I beg your pardon. Having read the article more closely, I realise that this doesn't touch upon the issue of legislation at all, and is only concerned with those cases where a woman would choose to deliver were it not for the financial considerations. I was under the mistaken impression that this was to enable people to afford the costs of adopting unwanted babies and, therefore, of encouraging their mothers' to deliver them. Thanks for having drawn that to my attention.

Gravatar Now that we've sorted that out and all of us now agree that the difference between life and death is a relatively small sum of money, what does that say about us?

This goes together with that other thread on BeyondBT about the unaffordability of Jewish education.

And the topic I alluded to in that thread on the inability of young people to get married - ever, for some - or have children because they don't earn at least 5 times the national average income.

What kind of society are we becoming? Financial contraception, indeed....

Gravatar Most abortions could be prevented if people bothered to use birth control.
