You think Meshichism is bad, and that it leads to Moshiach overload? learning V'Yoel Moshe can be downright hazardous. I would imagine that most Lefkowitzes are ashamed of this man, and that he's probably the black sheep, but still.
Lefkowitzes marry other Satmarers as well, I know many personally.

gandalin, he was not a roumanian goy, though... He was an intellectually refined idol worshiper from the cradle of civilization. Besides this is a question of mama-zerus, i.e. like the dude in NY pointed out, "being a bastard".

In "Hassidic People - A Place in the New World" by Mintz there is an account of the whole story (p. 307).
Anyway, it is well known that Szighet and the whole area were a hotbed of Shabsai Tzvinikes and Frankists. They practiced wife - swapping, which would render quite a lot of their descendants as mamzerim.

As to 'bastard', here is some pertinent Rambam:
FOR GENERAL BACKGROUND:
RELATED TO DICSUSSION:

Tzemach,
Thank youf or your comment. The point that Terach and Abram grew up in a technologically advanced, urban, and refined civilization is important; although living as a pastoralist, Avinu Avrohom was in but not of that milieu.
The suggestion by Yoshe Kalb that the Shabsaitzviists and Frankists may have perpetuated aspects of their minus within the orthopraxic framework of Chassidus is of interest. Gershom Scholem claimed that the Reform Movement originated in families whose antinomian Sabbateanism was dissembled in the enlightenment rationalism that movement ostensibly promoted.
I'd like to hear more about it.

You imagine what it would be like if we got paid for standing across the street from them with big Shleimus Haaretz signs?
