It says in the responsum,that according to the Rambam a female cannot conceive by a demon.BTW the whole thing reminds me of a story by I.B. Singer "Taibeleh and her demon". But I am unsure, if dealing with matters like this is the right preparation for Kabolas Hatoireh besimchoh ubepnimi'us.

The child in question was NOT the product of this union. He was born afterward, while not so gullible people beleived that the Mrs. had a Din of a Sotah (adulturess), and should have been divorced. Since a Sotah is only a Lav, the child is NOT a Mamzer, and may marry into Klal Yisroel. The line about who wants to marry a shed was a quip.

Sorry you’re wrong on this, read the teshuvo (again). It's not at all about 'leaving the poor woman alone'. The only concern is whether or not the father-in-law must honor the very real oath he made to her ghost. In order to answer the question seriously (without simply resorting to a very rude ‘what-were-you-smoking-old-man’ reply) one has to accept both the ghost and the horny sheid and basically say that al pi din in this situation, the oath must still be honored. Period. End of story.
Btw, the discussion on sheid-impregnation is entirely parenthetical and is only there do analyze the status of the sheid vis-à-vis his beilo and whether it creates an issur for the husband of this woman to cohabitate with her.

compleeeeetly off topic. sorry for bringing out my mundane worries, but i have to share this. just came home from a tiring shopping outing with my wife. a big kosher supermarket in brooklyn. the supermarket has an AmericanExpress logo displayed on its door, but from prior experience i know that it’s futile to offer the card to the cashier. tonight was different though. very much to my surprise, a gentleman in line before me gave an Amex card to the cashier. the cashier protested at first, but then with the manager’s approval, accepted the card. well, this made me really fly off the handle. when i handed my Amex card and got the usual “Visa or Master Card Only”, i says “here is my Amex, i saw a customer using it.” the cashier calls in the manager (M):

M: i do not accept Amex.
I: but you have to, you have it displayed on the door.
M: i do not accept Amex. if you want, i will take the sign off the door right now
I: but i saw this gentleman using the card just now
M: i have a special arrangement with him (sic!). he pays 2.5% surcharge, (aggressively) do you want to pay an extra 2.5%?
I:no, but this is illegal, you cannot do it
M: no it’s not illegal
I: i will report you to the American Express.
M: (aggressively) i can’t care less, (raising his voice and gesturing, probably appealing to the long line of customers) do you want to waste everybody’s time?!

well, I pay cash, and take off. question: should I report the store? my wife שתחי׳ is, of course, vehemently opposing it. the compromise was to put it to a vote. what say you?
