Gravatar Thank you for posting these pictures.
I feel so far away now that I've left Israel. Those are our brothers. Brave brothers. May Hashem protect them, bring them home safely, and reward us with a successful war, bringing home all of our brethren safely as heroes.

Seeing them davening like that is so beautiful.

Gravatar These pictures of heroism are heartbreaking and inspiring. All of us in the free world must strive every day to be worthy of the sacrifices of these heroes.

Who is the Rebbe on the card?

Gravatar that is na-na-nachman mishugas. Rav Odesser his name I think. There was a group of na-nas with the soldiers today.

Gravatar Mishagas??? G-d forbid! The sefer is a mini-tikun klali from Breslov, a series of 10 tehillim.

Both Breslov chassidum and Chabad chassidim have driven through katyusha territory through the north to the military prep sites before the units set off to Lebanon. Chabad is putting on teffilin and giving out tefilas haderech, Breslov is dancing with the soldiers and giving out tikun klali.

May HaKodesh Baruch Hu, Yishtabach Shmo, protect and deliver them all.

Though, Hashem Yerachem, today the story was otherwise.

Gravatar Akiva is prime example of otherwise rational person who bought into the entire crap. Religious people should go to the army and stop handing to soldiers na-na pamphlets. This type of thinking make me want to be as far from the frummies as possible.

Gravatar Tzemach - I don't necessarily disagree with your statement. However, don't doubt that the lack of charedi army service is a two sided street, the army has _not_ wanted them, nor been willing to make _minor_ adjustments to accomodate them. Rather, it's insisted in operating in a mode that has presented a problematic environment.

You may not have noted that Nachalat Charedi has been very successful, and the families of soldiers who are part of it are thrilled with the impact to their sons. Yet the army has specifically NOT expanded the program, and threatened to close it twice already. Why? Because the army wants to _make sure_ everyone gets fully mixed in.

Doing army service is one thing, placing yourself in an environment that has specific interest in stripping you of your religion is another.

Chabadnikim actually have the highest level of army service among the charedim (excluding Gur, who have their own private army unit). Still lower than general, but not none.

If the army wants more charedim, they can easily adjust to accomodate them. It will take a while, but there are plenty of parents who's sons are wasting away their days not-learning, who would be happy to push them in.

Gravatar As far as for buying in to it, I watched my rav do milium, with a 2 foot beard and an M16 in shul on Shabbos, I watched my chavruta to milium every year till he turned 40, and they would take neither me nor my friend and fellow blogger R. Nati, "too old and too religious" at 35.

Gravatar TA,you want to stay away from the frummies? Do us a favour and stay away from us.BTW what happened to your promise to close the mentalblock?

Gravatar yoshke, you are a guest here. You are free to leave. Do get lost.

Gravatar That's exactly what I'll do.Thanks for your hospitality.

Gravatar Yoshe,

TA is a living version of a Henny Youngman(?) joke.

A Gentile leaves without saying "goodbye". A Jew says "goodbye" and does not leave. VD"L

Gravatar Tzemach,

Thank you for the clarification. I have read parts of Rav Odesser's story. Didn't the unfortunate Nicholas II supply his troops with icons of St Michael the Archangel, rather than adequate munitions?
