It has nothing to do with Misnagdim and a lot to do with you being an ignoramus=Am haaretz.Any person with an intellectual mind and some torah knowledge cannot fail to appreciate Gil Students blog, probably the best on the web.You don't have to agree with him,I don't many times, but, his excellent and clear writing skills and the material itself is great.
I'm sorry that though you are a deep thinker you chose to take the easy way out when you became frum. What I mean is the fake 'warm, fuzzy' Lubavitch style, which is very weak on substance, hence the need to turn the late Rebbe z'l into superman and introduce a thought process that all that is desired from us is to connect, become 'mekushar to this superman aka 'Nosi Hador'.

I doubt you will allow this post to remain, since you hate when you are questioned

By the way,
I was not accusing you of turning the Rebbe z'l into superman. In fact you are one of the few who had the guts to challenge their warped thinking. My comment was aimed at the general Lubavitch practice of teaching very little intellectual substance (actually they teach very little at all)especially to their baaley teshuva and pushing the Rebbe as Superman and the only 'real' thing for Jews is to 'connect' to Superman aka Moshiach,Nosi Hador etc.

Gravatar "Geek Judaism... this is the culture of all of the misnagdim"

Awesome! Thank you for the honor.

Gravatar In Tzemach's words: Ned - "Moron"

Gravatar First and foremost you must get rid of that ASHKENAZI Jewish singles site ad.

Gravatar The CHABAD one I put here doesn't work.

Gravatar 'Rabbi' Gil Student - thinks the 'Mountain' in Chullin 7b is real - and Medrashim about Moshiach are meant to be read and understood literally - but he thinks Rambam is Metaphorical allegorical and mainly superstition! Gil is as much a Rabbi as the 'Mountain' was a Mountain!

Gravatar Max,

I can't say I know what you're talking about regarding Chullin 7b. R. Yonason Eybeschutz has a great allegorical explanation of that Gemara.

The book was written from the perspective of its target audince.

Gravatar When Rabbi heard of the arrival of R. Phinehas, he went out to meet him. 'Will you please dine with me’'? asked Rabbi. 'Certainly', he answered. Rabbi's face at once brightened with joy; [For R. Phinehas had the reputation of never having dined at another's table; v. infra.]
whereupon R. Phinehas said: "You imagine that I am forbidden by vow from deriving any benefit from an Israelite. Oh, no. The people of Israel are holy. Yet there are some who desire [to benefit others] but have not the means; whilst others have the means but have not the desire,[Though they felt constrained to extend an invitation to wayfarers] and it is written: Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainties; for as one that hath reckoned within himself, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.[Prov. XXIII, 6, 7.]
But you have the desire and also the means. At present, however, I am in a hurry for I am engaged on a religious duty; but on my return. I will come and visit you’. When he arrived, he happened to enter by a gate near which were some white mules. At this he exclaimed: ‘The angel of death is in this house! Shall I then dine here’? When Rabbi heard of this, he went out to meet him. ‘I shall sell the mules’, said Rabbi. R. Phinehas replied: ‘Thou shalt not put a stumbling block before the blind’.[Lev. XIX, 14]
‘I shall abandon them’. ‘You would be spreading danger’. ‘I shall hamstring them’. ‘You would be causing suffering to the animals’. ‘I shall kill them’. ‘There is the prohibition against wanton destruction’. [Based on Deut. XX, 19] Rabbi was thus pressing him persistently, when there rose up a mountain between them.

Gravatar Your ancestor learned in Volozhin. Maybe he knew something that you don't ? Do you think he was part of an evil group ? Chas vesholom !

Gravatar Tzemach Atlas must be an allegory or something. How could our holy, scholarly people have produced the dumb, hateful postings attributed to him?

Gravatar Nickname,
"[S]omething" other than allegory. There is a tradition in Yiddish literature for authors to write under a pen name. The trick is to discover the meaning of the pen name, i.e. why this name instead of some other.

Pen names aren't unusual in European literatures. The Bronte sisters published under the names Currier, Ellis, and Acton Bell. Anna Akmatova created her surname. Then there is the beautiful name, Sojourner Truth -- a complete invention.

Gravatar Ned,
Is "the late Rebbe z'l" redundant, or does "z'l" mean something more than that the preceding person is no longer living? Thank you for answering my question.

Gravatar MarybN:
z'l is an acronym,it stands for the hebrew 'zichrono'=his memory 'livrocho'=to be blessed i.e of blessed memory

Gravatar how ever bad the misnagdim might be for the jewish nation, they will be the last remaining orthodox jews around

Gravatar Ah...hateful, spiteful, prideful...with fellow Jews like these, who would want for enemies?

Can we start a thread about the Destruction of the 2nd Temple? Whose fault was it REALLY? My money's on a Karaite and Samaritan plot to get all the bickering Rabbinites kicked out... finally they had some peace and quiet.
