The last time I looked, the Vatican website had the Pope's lecture up in German, Italian, & English.
If you want to know what the Pope really said, the German text is the text he delivered.

I agree with Gandalin that Lew Rockwell is bad and unnecessary: anti-Semitism with a pacifism mask. The pope's speech is a watershed. Jews who are interested in survival have to be more on the ball about finding and keeping allies. The Jewish fossils who haven't realized we have been dumped by the political left deserve a Darwin Award.
The article is not by Lew Rockwell, but can you provide a link to the text. I will delete the link to Lew Rockwell's site.

Lew Rockwell's site has a variety of authors who profess a variety of opinions, and they are often interesting. Rockwell himself does seem to be an anti-Semite.
My point about referencing the Vatican's own website, is that whenever it is possible to go to the source itself, we should do so. There is less chance of an error that way. There is less chance that the Vatican would post a distorted translation of the Pope's speech than someone else.
By the way, thank you for continuing your blogging. I read all of your posts, and most of the comments, and I find them very interesting.
When I wrote "Lew Rockwell", I was referring to the website. I formed my opinion from infrequent visits over the past 3 years. I have no information about Lew Rockwell as a person.

Even in the context of the whole speech this quote is still offensive to Muslims and it is offensive to anyone who knows history.
And it's hipocritical for a Christian leader to say such a thing given Christianity's own history of "conversions by the sword".

So to recap Pope makes a historicly inacurate hipocritical self serving speech that offends Muslims. Sefardi Chief Rabbi of Israel says something that is intelegent but perhaps somewhat worse than being quiet , Pope is defended by Jews all over and the Chief Rabbi is atacked ... How sad.
An previous enemy (the pope) made a statement about a current enemy (jihadism) and you want to sit around nurturing your past grievences. Current jihadic ideology calls for human sacrifice and genocide on a level that could never previously imagined. Are you trying to claim that being the victim of murder in the name of monotheism is morally preferable to peace with practitioners of shituf? this would be true if it was said in a historical context. that wasnt the case, however. this was a purely theological discussion regarding the nature of faith.

If the quotation is offensive to Muslims, they should learn to take offensive criticism like a man, or a mensch if you prefer.
Those who preach every Friday that all infidels must accept Islam, pay the jizya, or die, those who preach every Friday that Jews are pigs and monkeys, and that all infidels are filth and dogs, hardly have legitimacy to burn and kill when they are "offended."
