Either Toldos Aron is not what it used to be, or you're a real pro. To get these guys to smile for pictures is no small accomplishment.

I believe most of the good Nigunim you speak of are from Karlin, Breslov etc.

Great Pics, better than any of the weirdos in Caravans.

There was one guy who told me that I am a marked man and they will through me out but I worked around him. One Yid tells me why do I take a photo of the "petek she assur lakahat at ha tmunot". I told him “zol nit fargessen..."

But there are others who don’t mind and actually want to see the pictures. They all have cell phones and some use red lazer pointers to signal to each other. But the point is that I was greatly inspired.

Nice pictures Tzemach! Did it remind you at all of the old days in 770?

To bad you missed out on karlin, they had pretty hectic dancing until 5:00 AM

The guy on the clarinet is chatzkel Frank, the best player in Israel, they actuallty sell his cd's in one of the stores outside.

Toldos Avrohom Yitxchok had a good choir with an amazing soloist.

Also in Torah Ve'yirah nearby there was nice dancing with the NK homies.

here is a illegal 7 minute video recording of one of the past nights.

Gravatar I've seen such esrogim before -I think they smell better then the run of the mill kind.

Gravatar To the Chief Editor and owner of MentalBlog, since there is no other way to reach you at this time I am posting this here in the hope that you will read it and respond:

Good Mo'ed to you and Yasher Koach on the good work that you do on this Blog.

We are writing (actually improving) an article about Barry Gurary on Wikipedia, see it at

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bar...ki/ Barry_Gurary

As you can well imagine, editors who are not Lubavitch want to include truthful information unlike Lubavitcher editors who are fighting it.

Perhaps you may want to comment and add information, every article has its own talk page on Wikipedia, see

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tal...lk: Barry_Gurary

Do you know how to get a good photo of Barry Gurary that would not be bound by Copyright issues or one that has been freed into the public domain by its owners? There are a number of photos of Barry Guaray from his youth on your Blog, but there are copyright issues that need to be clarified first to satisfy Wikipedia's rules about these kind things, before photos can be downloaded and posted to the website to become part of the article on Wikipedia, which as you may know is the world largest Encyclopedia.
Do you know of any good photos of Barry Gurary in his later years? Like the one you have at
http://www.mentalblog.com/ archiv...01_archive.html

Finally do you know (I am sure you do) the years of birth and death of the late Rebbetzin Chana Gurary?

I look forward to hearing from you, and I have entered my Email in the required field for you to contact me.

Shalom and a Gutten Yom Tov!

Gravatar Great pictures, Tzemach! :)

Gravatar S. Shalom, the source on Barry is Schenur. I will bring this to his attention.

P.S. Speaking to Lubavitchers about Barry is hopeless, as hating Rabbi Gourari and his mother is one of the ikrei haemuno.

Gravatar zalman k, "NK homies" LOL, are you stealing my lines? BTW on that video there are less people than last night. It was so packed the stream carried you. I was thrown on the floor at some point.

Where is Karlin, I would like to see them?

Gravatar Just A Guy, in 770 the dancers break up in many groups, even in the old days. Here was one dance group and much more heimish. All kind of Jews dancing together in one circle, without the showing off element or trying to convert anyone. No drinking. Much more pure, amazing sustained energy. Less mean than the 770. In one sentence 770, even in the old days, can’t hold a candle to what I saw in Toldos Aaaron last night. It also felt that I can relate to the Toldos Aaaoron hevra much better than I can relate to chabadnikim these days. These are kind hemish Jews. They greet you with smile with no precondition. I felt connected.

Gravatar I am sitting in the NYU library, across from Washington Sq Park, and all I hear is the infernal noise of the glam rocking Lubobs playing "ashreinu" at noon.
Would that they had the modesty of the Toldos Aharon Hasidim, I would be able to study.
Unfortunately, they are too consumed in their mission of being loud and obnoxious to let anyone enjoy the verdant beauty of Washington sq park, or the contemplative silence of the library.
The guy outside is singing tov lehodos lashem. I respond: fuck you.

Gravatar To all anonymous cowards: There is an old saying that goes something like this; Blessed is he that praises another and seven fold the one who repeats it. Conversely, cursed is he that slanders another and seven fold the one who links (in deference to our cyberitic times.) to it.

Gravatar TA

please don't make a life's decision based on a time like dancing at SBH. If you think Chabad is repressive just try doing that "Judean Princess" thing in Toldos Aron and you'll feel the full wrath of years of pent-up frustration. Better yet, ask to interview one of those smiling guy's wife.

Gravatar Karlin (stolin karlin) is on Avinoam Levin st, you get there from walking down shabbos square towards meah shearim and taking the first left, or walking down Yechezkel and taking the third right.

It is opposite the satmar shul on one side and close to Rabbi mazuz's new 8 story compound (hard to miss)

There will be an outdoor tish on simchas torah which will be very unique.

By the way if you take a picture of the karliner Rebbe, consider your camera broken, they are much more fanatic about that than toldos aron.

Gravatar 'By the way if you take a picture of the karliner Rebbe, consider your camera broken, they are much more fanatic about that than toldos aron.'

oyb azoy , since kol haomed lichorev kachoruv domi, its as if your camera doesn't exist, and consquentally they should have no objection to you photgraphing with a camera that is not extant.

Gravatar correction:

karlin is on avinoam -yelin- st

not avinoam levin

Gravatar Are those kids wearing Shtreimels married, or do they wear them beginning at Bar Mitzvah?

Gravatar Jason, they wear adult garb at Bar Mitzvah.

Gravatar The pictures are wonderful. The various costumes and hair styles peyoth , kippoth are wonderful and very photogenic.
But permit me to make the following observations.
The clothes are obvioulsy just costumes. The people dress up in what they want to be. There are no longer any real Yidden with any real mesoroth in levush. Its cute to see American BT's dress up as Yemenis or Carlebachians or whatever but what does this mean spiritually. {erhaps the CPA in a grey hat and grey suit clean shaven is more spiritually aware than these people.. Perhaps the Mizrachi Zionist man in a knit kippah and white shirt has more spiritual energy thanm the Carlbachian characters.
At my age the Yerushalmi Levush does not impress me either . If its their traditiob fine but its nothing more than a god photo op for American tourists.
I wish you went behind the scenes to seek true spritual people teachers etc whatever they look like. Instead you produced wonderful photos of exotic looking people.
Next year we will buy the costumes and have a carnival in Boston or new York.

Gravatar Great point, Schneur. Whom should I have seen?

Gravatar Ah thats the point. You have to seek them out !There are obviously all sorts of interesting people in Jerusalem , who do not have PR agents or choose not to stand out. I am sure they are in both modern and Charedi sectors.
When I was in Isarel moons ago, I met many interesting people , mostly really spiritual Jews from Russia like the guy selling train tikets in Kfar Chabad or the rov (R. Kuk) of a modern neighborhood in Ramat gan.As a young fellow I was taken in by the Yerushalmi dress, but now I know its not different than a kapote from Sharfman's.
Don't get me wrong I like looking at the Yerushalmi costumes, some of the New Age women are beautiful too, and the Carlbachian types have a certain off beat "chen" in a Orthodox world inhabited by uniformity and middle class values. And the photography here is wonderful and clear.
But who knows where the truth lies, Chitzoniuth is just another trap by the yetzer to mis direct us from the path to clear vision.

Gravatar RE: Barry Gurary article on Wikipedia.

The idea is not to convince any Lubavitchers about anything, for that they have mashpi'im and etc, but rather, on WIKIPEDIA itself which does not belong to Lubavitch or to any religious group, and which is the world's largest encyclopedia about ALL subjects, articles about notable people are written by a variety of editors, and hopefully some honest biographies and articles do emerge from this process. Thus a Lubavitcher is free to edit and explain his POV (Point Of View) and a non-Lubavitcher can insert his POV, as well as others and their POVs, and then in combination an article on Wikipedia should become NPOV (Neutral Point Of View) in its final edits and contents.
Thanks.
Shalom!
