The last 2 trips I made to Eretz Yisroel, I lost a PDA. This past trip I figured it out and didn't bring one.

Faruq - I like Fuji's cameras, even the low end (around $100 I think) take good pictures. I bought a few for my kids.

For mid range (5 - 7 megapixel), I use Olympus pocket camera's, great photos but a little slow shoot time.

For the higher end, I go back to Fuji. Excellent lenses, a little smaller structure than others, very fast shoot times, good video, and somewhat lower prices than competators.

For the highest end near-professional, Canon seems the best to me, though Sony is pretty competative.

Tzemach, you must buy from Costco, Their return policy is great. They would take back your broken Camera no problem. I am sorry that your Camera broke though. I think you take wonderful pictures. Ah Gut Yom Tov

ta; take it easy. You have described a accident not a conspiracy! The pocket size format of digital camera is very convenient especially when traveling. Other important evaluation parameters are ruggedness, optical zoom, shutter lag time, image stabilization, battery life.

On the other hand, you're not paranoid if they're really out to get you. Since you arent interested in a free non-digital camera, let me say a good word for Fujifilm. Excellent and unexpensive.
