i once bought a precious letter written by the previous lubavitcher rebe from this ebay seller. he has very unique things very often. i wonder how he gets them. any way i paid for item and it arrived in perfect condition so he is a good seller

Gravatar Did these come from Bear, of the Lion-Cub?

Gravatar I purchased this siddur years ago in BP. Its printer is Reb Frumkin a half brother or nephew of the infamous Rodkinson .Its a nice item , but unless you have great eye sight , just keep it as asouvenier.

Gravatar i actually have around 70 letters of the rebbe rashab, 120 of the frierdikeh rebbe, 10 of them hand written does any body know what these would go for? (obviously those of the rebbe reshab are all ksav yad)

Gravatar Put one of the letters on ebay, (email me and I will link to it) and you will find out what it is worth.
Just curious where did you get them, in Lenin's library?

Gravatar these are all unpublished letters. i don't want to display them on the internet. they are handwritten letters by the rebbeim themselves. they belonged to my great-grandfather. i also have some letters written to reb avraham dovid lavut and to reb meir shlomo yanovsky.

Gravatar im curious about their approx worth without posting them on the web

Gravatar The market never lies , placing them on the block is 1 way to find out their value.
Another way is to check recent auction catalogs from places like Kestenbaum and Froelich etc and see what similiar items went for in recent shows..
An Israeli concern led by Rabbis Rosenfeld and Winograd of Jslm has a C?D available that among other information supplies auction prices for BOOKS.
I
would guess that the potential buyers would be from the general Chassidic community (Hungarian), as Lubavitchers are not that much into collectables.
In my 25 years in YU I have never encountered a Chabad person interested in collecting rare books or Kisve yados etc.I have met Bobover, Satmar, Nitra, Belzer etc etc who are dealers, buyers, collectors, but never met a Chabad man "vos kocht zich in alte seforim un kisve yados".
Of course that community has experts in the field Chitrik, Munshine, Levine (who does not buy books as far as I know the Lubavitch community does not supply him with an acquisitions budget!!!)Naftali Krauss, and I am sure others, but collectors , perhaps but not that I know of.And while we are ion the subject lets mention the gadol hador in bibliography of rare books - Reb Chaim Lieberman another Lubavitcher .
I woukld guess depending on the contents that these letters are worth about $1,200-1,600 a piece but before anyone gets excited, thats a guess.
Good luck

Gravatar another collecter of altte kisvey yad. menachem mendel ben sb schneerson.

Gravatar Schneur,
It seems like your out of the loop here, because I personally know many Lubavitchers that collect old Kisvei Yad and Seforim, and not only from Chabad Rabeiim. They pay large amonuts of money for these items. You just have to know when and where to ask.

Gravatar True, I forgot to mention another Chabad collector - Rabbi Saul Shimon Deutsch of Liozna.
I can only state of what I know ;in my years in YIVO , YU etc I have never encountered Chabad collectors.
I am happy to hear that there are Chabad collectors.
I also seem to recall a Sicha Kedosha by the Rebbe against paying large amounts of money for chabad ksovim and the like, as a way of halting the inflation of prices in this area.
Can anyone provide more details about this sicha kedosha ?
