I only spent 2 months at Mayanot during a summer break in college, but I learned a lot and appreciated the down to earth attitude of the rabbis.
I was in Rabbi Silberg's Gemmorah Shiur and was amazed at how much my learning improved just after a few weeks by sitting in his class. They also had an Ivrit class with a great Temani guy, who unfortunately I can't remember his name. But seriously, how many BT Yeshiva's even teach Ivrit? It's ridiculous. How can you ever be an educated Jew without properly learning the Hebrew language?
I have spent time at other BT Chabad Yeshivas and Mayanot was the best experience of any of them. The guys who learn at Mayanot don't want to be brainwashed yellow-flag waving robots. They just want to be more committed and more knowledgeable Jews. This, I feel, is what makes the Yeshiva truly great.
the writer is correct. mayanot is a great yeshiva, with great teachers and a great setup.
that said, there is one snake in the garden.
his name is rabbi levinger.
many students who have attended mayanot had been harassed by him.
whereas, the other teachers are sincere, he is not.
he should have remained where he was before he came to mayanot.
he has turned off quite a few students from judaism.
i saw something about this on the net. some former student put up a website about him.
i will reiterate that mayanot remains a superior institution.
