argentina

Uruguay.

CHILE

i know the names of the countries. Is there a reason?

Yes Argentina 100 percent there are over 200,000 jews there the place is swarming with kosher restauants, shuls
and jewish culture! There are chassidim, misnagdim, actualy there is a big satmar presence over there.
Chabad is gants powerfull over there
well mostly due to there head shliach
Tzvi Grunblatt, who is just an amazing fusion of a genious mind in lubavitch and the power to do big moves like Shlomo Cunin!!!
Now lets get into daily expenses, i mean were talking dirty cheap!! A pack of ciggerates is about 80 cents american. you can buy a custom made suit for about 200 us. And last but not least the only real kosher Mcdonalds in the world, just thinking about that big-mac makes me kvell!!!
Oh the nature, there is a hidden world of beauty in argentina, there is prob around 10,000 israeli backpackers that frequent argentina per year. Thats not a raaye that its nice but thats a raaya that its cheap
but you can trust me on the nice part!!! Argentina boasts the largest
moving glacier in the world its gorgeous!!! Anyway i hope this satisfies your thirst. Enjoy de country of Eliezer!! You don no who i talk abou?? I talk abou de one fro 770!! you understan?? bery good!!

Tzemach, in Uruguay you will be under the care of Rabbi Leizer Shemtov, who is a good match for you.

You will be well off in Argentina as well - bunch of hard headed Russians there.

Russians what the hell are you talkin about!! They are the nicest people ive ever met!!

Why would a nice jewish boy use a pen-name like jesus!!! Jackass!!!

Guravitzer, when TA lived in Philly many years ago, Leizer's father never give TA the personal touch he was seeking at the time. Indeed, that was one of the traumas that bittered him on shluchim b'chlal. So why do you think the son will be any more congenial?

Has the economy in Argentina recovered from the crash? What about the Central America?

brazil, nice people, nice weather, and carnival:)

Argentina is slowly recovering. Central America is a cesspit. Most of the Yidden in Argentina are of Russian extraction.

Leizer's father gives everyone the personal touch, Tzemach may not have appreciated the direction it took, but I am sure he received personal attention. I do not recall Tzemach stating this anywhere on this blog, why do you believe so?

I had no personal attention or impersonal attention. Not even a warm Sholom Aleichem.

Fascinating when discussing where to live, the only standards among Orthodox jews here seem to be where you can get a good kosher burger. What about Chedorim, schools, Yeshivas , interesting rabbis, Jewish cultural scene, etc etc.
Argentina is not apolitically stable nation. My suggestion is Panama where there is a strong segfardi kehillo led by Rav Zion Levy orfpr gamblers Cuba led by one of the zikne Anash Reb Fidel Castro, sorry you can not get the juicy glatt kosher burger there.

Schneur, here in Boston there are always a lot of Jewish students from Panama. And I am amazed that on average they are much more jeweshly aware than the American kids. In fact I met a group of them this week (sorry it was in a falafel place, I was eating a hot dog)and I was again amazed at how they spoke Ivrit, etc...

PS Schneur, burgers per se are not a reflection of the community standards but they speak volumes about the vigor and energy of the community. For example the dearth of kosher establishments in Boston speaks volumes about the communal life.

Since your already mentioning Cuba,
i was there that place is a disaster!
The level of inter-marriage is extremely high, i dont think there are
more then 200 jews there!!

Guravitzer,

You have to be boki in the archives. Here's a comment from two years ago:

I have to tell you that this is not about Shemtov, Drizin or Klimovitchy dynasty. This is about my grandmother. She was the most eidel and smart soul. I don't care if they come from Aler Rebbe or Chasam Soyfer. The fact of the matter is that I used to live in Philadelphia and the esteemed Shemtov never asked me if I come from Druya or from Bangladesh. He did not ask me anything for that matter. I am grasping for history as way to frame the life of my grandmother but I could care less for the lanzman that did not show me a sign of warm or menchlechkite when I was bein ha meizorim. This is all about grasping for signs of connectedness to this world. And you people who think you can speak about some Klimovither family under the portrait of my grandfather dont really get it.

So, you see, evidently Leizer's father did not give Tzemach the personal touch. Maybe if he would have, Tzemach would be a very different person today. So for all you kids out there who want to grow up to be shluchim, remember how important it is to give every Yid a warm handshake and a friendly "howdayado" when he comes to your Chabad house.

Nice to see that post revived in the comments...

I see it now, I am not so Boki. All I can say is, usually the fault ascribed to him is that he gives "too much" personal attention, with blame and fighting etc.

Tzemach blamed it on the Rebbe primarily at one point, so I don't see it would make a difference. (See - I do remember some of this!)

Tzemach, South American Jews as a whole speak Hebrew more than we do here, because they teach it there in almost all the types of schools - here it is just Modern Orthodox, and they usually relegate it to the worst teachers and give it very little attention, they pay lip service to it.

I really recommend Uruguay, seriously. It wasn't (only) a joke.

lo siento senor semach
(i feel for you reb tzemach)
alas, on the matter of tangible -lasting?- friendships, being short tempered, intolerant, with the attention span shorter than that of an nyc stockbroker and calling every other person a moron does not make things easier.
just a thought!

let us know where you head
as abraham avinu said:
"if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou take the right hand, then I will go to the left.'"
:-)

Gravatar I have known a couple of Yidden from Uruguay. From their opinions, it seemed like a nice place. Of course they did make aliyah. But they were very proud of Uruguay. I also knew a Yid from a small agricultural city in Brazil. He moved back there, but there are a lot of problems with crime and the economy and leftist politicians. The most stable country, politically and economically, in South America is probably Chile.

Gravatar hey! Uruguay is great!Leizer is a fantastic Yd. You can Farbreng almost every day! You will love Punta del Este!

Gravatar Obviously kosher eater are important for the modern Traditional Jew. But a good well run Day school, a good CO-Ed MO high school or traditional Yeshiva/Beth Yaakov are of much greater importance.
A well established shul on a solid footing with a competent rabbi is also important. Other factors of importance are a modern Mikveh, a kosher bakery, meat supply and Suopermarket catering to the kosher crowd.
Other points of interest could be a community kollel, a Chabad house, Hebrew book store . Its in this category a juicosher burger falls in.
A kosher pizza fallafel place is of greater importance as it serves as a hangout for teens and as such its important that such a place exist.

Gravatar CEntral America? Cuba has almost no Jews left. El Salvador Jews commute to Miami. Guatemala - it is very small. Panama - mostly Sepharadi. Venezuela had a nice rich community but now it is dangerous. Mexico City is the place for you!

Argentina second place (by the way, they are not Russian but Ukraynian and no one speaks but Spanish) and then Brazil! Brazil has two jewish communities: Rio and Sao Paulo. And then Lima, Peru.

Gravatar Columbia?

Gravatar Very dangerous place.

Gravatar b'h

Well well, we have some people opining on things they have no clue about.. since i know my stuff i guess i'll have to be the one deffending the righteous.

Here for some facts:

Leizer Shemtov is on shlichus to uruguay for 22 years. when speaking about uruguay we talk about a country were theres no chinuch, no kashrus (besides for meat, being that theres a slaughterhouse there),
and a country that couldnt be more secular. The concept of zionism is unfortunately ingraved very strongly on peoples minds, and to get through to them is indeed a very tough job. Besides for the aforementoned issues, theres many, many more. and being that hes Avremel's son he could've gone virtually anywere he desired, especially 22 years ago. But he didnt. He went to a country that at the time was in danger, and needed a shliach urgently.

And since i also know Leizer's father personally, although i might be wrong, all i can tell you is that considering tzamach's age, the era he was a youngster was when avremel was busy with building the multi-million dollar building of bais rivkah, just apointed as head of aguch and many urgent things that followed on these critical years of lubavitch.

If anybody disagrees with any of these facts, please voice you're opinion out loud so that i could clarify all lies that go around, born out of nothing more than hatred, jealousy, and ignorance.

A famous line is written in meseches baba metzia, "shtikah ke hodoa", silence is like agreement.

In the case were there'll (hopefully) be no response to this comment, ill take it as an agreement from the reader's side.

Gravatar Menachem T,

Whoa, there! Slow down. Who said anything against Leizer Shemtov or his father? Nobody! Guravitzer is the one who brought up Leizer's name saying that "he'd be a good match" for TA. I suppose Guravitzer is a friend (or enemy) of Leizer's. I then mentioned in response the fact that Tzemach did not feel that he had a positive experience with Avreml in Philadelphia and I wondered whether TA and Leizer would be any better of a match than TA and the father.

That's all that happened. Who implied that Leizer isn't a dedicated shliach? Who badmouthed Avreml in any way other than just mentioning the minor fact that he didn't show any warmth to Tzemach?

There were no personal attacks - not even any "red bastard" comments - so take it easy. Personally, I have the utmost respect for both Leizer and his dad.

Gravatar well said Tony
Leizer is a Tzadik, a real Tzadik
And as Menachem T mentioned, he could have go on shlichus to Florida o California, or he could have stayed working with his father in law with a nice house in President ave , like his brothers in law, and millions in the bank
He went to Uruguyay, to save Jews. I know many jews that Leizer brought to Iddishkait and they left the country with their families (for chinuch, cashrus, etc) and Leizer is there with his wife (even all their kids left Uruguay to Yeshivos) doing an amazing work

Gravatar besides saving (very few) jews, montevideo is also known as switzerland of south america which serves well a globe spanning enterprise:
mehodu vead kush, mehonolulu vead hongkong (another switzerland with very few jews to save).
sheneemor, no money, no honey!
:-)

Gravatar I meant match in a good way.

Gravatar "Jewish students from Panama. they are much more jeweshly aware than the American kids...I was again amazed at how they spoke Ivrit".-i met lots of south american jewsh kids like this. it's all zionist influence.they might even speak yiddish, know lots of jewish history-but barely one iota of religion. not complaining. i thought that was fascinating in and of itself.
