When was the last time someone served you an eagle for Shabbos but are you surprised that the ol' bald buzzard, Peres, would be warm to this selection. I just wish that society had enough heart left to choose a bird with a reputation for swift and deadly hunting skills and fiercely protecting its offspring.
Since Chicken Soup is a national drink they should have chosen a chicken as national bird.
Perhaps it has something to do with "The Conference of the Birds." I think that the Hoopoe played a prominent role in that tale.
